'Aethelinda' is Welsh for dragon. This programmatic piece invokes the energy and power of a great winged beast as it awakens from its slumber to wreak havoc on the countryside. Opening with a low string choir, the piece builds to a rousing allegro section and then a soaring fanfare. (6:00) / Orchestre

Saint François D'Assise is an opera in 3 acts by Olivier Messiaen. This volume is part of the edition that includes the books with the full Orchestra scores as well as the explanations analysis and comments of each tableau. It is focused on the “Act 3 Tableau 7. Les stigmates” which tells of the moment when Saint Francis receives the stigmata which proves that God approves his status of Saint. This tableau is happening when Saint Francis is alone in a cave in Verna. The music with a choir depicts a feeling of anxiety until the Choir interprets the voice of the Christ. Saint Francis is then hit by some lightfrom a cross that appeared to him in the exact same places where the Christ was hit by the Stigmata. The Orchestra is really strong on that tableau and depicts one of the most important moments of the opera Based on the life of Saint Francis of Assisi this opera is set in Italy and is divided as per below: Act I: 1. Olivier Messiaen (1908-1992) was a French Organist and composer passionate about Ornithology and one of the most important composers of his century. Inspired by Japanese music he had a very special way of composing and his work can be identified by its complexity its diatonic aspect its harmony with limited transposition its colour and its additive rhythms. He composed many works related to ornithology and birdsong including the Bird Catalogue in 7 volumes and the Treatise on rhythm colour and ornithology in 7 volumes.

Although Bertold Hummel composed this Scherzo for bassoon and chamber orchestra more than fifty years ago the piece still captivates every listener with its youthful carefree liveliness. Virtuoso and witty it does justice to its title in every respect. It was created in 1957 upon commission of the Kleines Unterhaltungsorchester Südwestfunk Baden-Baden. The solo part of the four-minute concert piece with the tempo indication 'allegro molto' was tailor-made by Hummel for the orchestra's principal bassoonist Helmut Böker.In addition to the hire material a piano score with solo part is now available on sale.

The piece for string orchestra Infinite Melody is dedicated to the great shadows in Bayreuth Wagner and Liszt. An evocative miniature like a style study it was requested by youth ensembles participating in the artistic festival in this city. A polyphonic technique involving immanent sounds is used which was also used in The Modal Column. The passage of the melodic relief from one group of instruments to another induces a feeling of perpetual quest. From Wagner and Liszt’s infinite melody a few external characteristic aspects are employed: 1. the grupetto which tends to amplify the importance of a sound and 2. the Auftakt fromthe beginning of each phrase as in Tristan and Isolde At the climax of the piece an impact with a few authentic themes takes place cited from Wagner (Siegfried-Idylle) and Liszt respectively (Faust-Symphonie).

Score-Morton Gould's Fall River Legend ballet suite for Orchestra. Study score.Fall River Legend was commissioned by Ballet Theatre with choreography by Agnes de Mille music byMorton Gould and sets by Oliver Smith and recieved its world premiere performance at the Metropolitan Opera House New York on April 22 1948.Having selected for her subject the historical Lizzie Borden murder case deMille used both pantomime and ballet techniques to convey the story. Morton Gould created the musical score in a similar way alternating programmatic sections with more formal dance patterns. The set dance movements formthe basis of this orchestral suite omitting most of the purely dramatic sequences.A feeling of austerity and doom opens the Prologue followed by a group of Waltzes depicting Lizzie's childhood. The sadness of Lizzie'sgirlhood is reflected in the nostalgic Elegy. Church social is a setting for a parish dance and Hymnal Variations suggest the old New England hymn tunes. The festive Cotillion is an exhuberant sequence of dancing patterns.Epilogue returns to the foreboding mood of the prologue.

Nico Muhly's It Remains To Be Seen was written in 2006 for for full Orchestra and has a duration of approximately 11 minutes. Composers Note: It Remains to be Seen was written for the Boston University Tanglewood Institute’s 40th Anniversary Gala in July 2006. The piece begins with a chord identical to the one at the end of Stravinsky’s Firebird suite and proceeds into a series of charged nocturnal episodes. I wanted to treat the feeling of having just heard music and being expected to make one’s own – referencing the experience of leaving a BSO concert at the shed walking back to BUTI on a curvy back road arguing about music in pairs and threes and at the sign of bright headlights from behind reorganizing in single file as a car filled with happy concert-goers speeds by. The piece is a nine-minute navigation of an excited occasionally illuminated dark road filled with arguing cars fragments of remembered music and a constant propulsive pulse. Nico Muhly

Richard Rodney Bennet’s Symphony No. 3 commissioned for the 1987 Three Choirs Festival by the Elgar Foundation with additional funds from West Midlands Arts is now published in a facsimile study score.In contrast with his first two symphonies which were rather extrovert display pieces Symphony No. 3 is quite thoughtful and lyrical in nature more or less monothematic and has a strong feeling of tonality particularly at the opening and closing of the score. The more moderate orchestration (2 Flutes Oboe Cor Anglais 2 Clarinets in B flat Bassoon 2 Horns in F Percussion 1 (small Triangle Tam-tam 3 suspendedCymbals) Percussion 2 (side Drum tubular Bells) Timpani Piano Harp and Strings) also reflects this. Performance time of the three movements is ca. 22 minutes.Sir Richard Rodney Bennett was an English composer of film TV and concert music and also a jazz pianist. He was based in New York City from 1979 until his death there in 2012.

Among the most popular of Mahler's symphonic works the 7th symphony has neither a program nor a folk-song theme. It is a purely instrumental composition both hopeful and romantic in feeling. The restrained mood and thematic economy of the symphony make it one of the least extravagant of the composer's works; it is also one of the most approachable. Now music lovers can study this edition of the complete score reprinted from the authoritative German edition of 1909.

Symphonic Etudes. Par SHCHEDRIN RODION. Many of Rodion Shchedrin’s compositions are distinguished by deeply Slavonic feeling and thrilling virtuoso displays. Even though Shchedrin has won recognition all over the world for his work, he remains an essentially Russian composer who has not broken off his ties to Russian musical folk traditions and poetry. It is thus not surprising to learn of his profound admiration for his compatriot Shostakovich (Shchedrin writes: “He is like a God to me.”) The “dialogues” in this one-movement orchestral piece give expression to this admiration; they describe and offer a musical commentary on the character of Shostakovich’s music and of the man himself. / Études et exercices / Répertoire / Orchestre

Par SORENSEN BENT . When it comes to titles, almost all the works I have composed have found their title before or at the same moment I started them. That is why it was also surprising - not to say transgressive - for me that my work for 9 instruments for Ensemble MidtVest was completely untitled until the last bar. Then it dawned on me that the titlelessness was a natural result of the music's volatility. It was - and is - as if the music was constantly escaping from itself. The beginning of the work is definitely an escape into a new chapter, and that feeling runs through the entire work. In a longer section, the music flies towards a Barcarole, where the piano has a soloist role, and this is probably a result of my recurring dream of Venice - the gondolas in the swaying rhythms of the canals. Hence the Italian title, 'Fuggitivo' - fugitive.
