Written for Philip Redfern and the choir of St George’s School Edinburgh who first performed it in December 2014 this is a refreshing new setting of the well-known Christmas carol. Mozart wrote The Magic Flute as a singspiel opera in two acts in 1791 when it received its first set of performances in Vienna and from that time it has featured as one of the most popular works in operatic repertoire. This love duet with its stuttering ‘pa pa pa’ occurs almost at the end of the opera when the comical couple Papageno and Papagena finally are assured of each other’s love.
