Par ROTH DANIEL. “The pretty Basque song “Iru erége”, which tells of the three wise men from the Orient travelling to Bethlehem to worship the baby Jesus, gave me the idea for a musical interpretation of this astonishing event (Gospel according to Matthew II, 1-12). In registering the work for the wonderful organ in Santa Maria del Coro I wished to pay homage to the great organ-builder Aristide Cavaillé-Coll, who died a century ago. Album for organ solo from the composer of the much-recorded 'Miroir?. The album consists of four pieces of between 2½ and 4 minutes' duration respectively. 'Play it cool!? was composed as the mandatory test piece in the 2012 First Breda International Organ Competition, with the Grote Kerk's four-manual Flentrop/Van den Heuvel instrument in mind. As the title suggests, the piece makes great play on syncopated, jazz- and rock-inflected figures. Suitable for advanced standard performers. 'The Messenger on the Hill?, while similarly syncopated and witty, is within easy reach of intermediate standard players. Laid out for two-manual instrument it features an almost continuous oscillating left-hand figure with right-hand melody and a very simple pedal part. 'Rejoice!? is an arrangement of a work for saxophone and organ, made at the request of, and in collaboration with, Thomas Trotter. A duo for contrasting manuals, with a simple, syncopated bass part in the pedals. Suitable for advanced standard performers. '­Passacaglia?, also for two-manual instrument, is composed almost entirely for the white notes. The simple passacaglia theme is repeated throughout on the pedals. Above this, melodic material derived from the theme is played in the right hand against a sustained, chordal left-hand accompaniment. Later on, there is dialogue between the hands, with some optional ornamentation in the right hand. Suitable for intermediate standard performers. / Orgue

It may come as a surprise to learn that Anton Webern's delicate, refined and intimate music can be transferred to the organ. Xavier Durasse (1934-1992), a pupil of Durufle and Messiaen, has produced an organ adaptation of the famous three-movement Variations for piano op. 27 (1936), a groundbreaking composition in serial music. His arrangement is accompanied by judicious registration marks and division of the manuals. The result is fully convincing, making this late work with its chamber-like atmosphere attractive to organists.Durasse's adaptation is now presented to the public for the first time. His pupil Bernhard Haas, an organ professor in Munich, has prefixed his teacher's manuscript with a foreword containing important suggestions regarding the work's performance. / Orgue

Par REGER MAX. Max Reger composed the present work in 1899 for the 'Schönberger Orgelalbum', which served as a means of funding the new organ in Schönberg im Taunus. Other renowned organ composers of the time also contributed works to this project, such as Guilmant, Rheinberger and Widor. Reger referred to his piece as a 'little work' that is 'intentionally not difficult' & yet he succeeded in creating a highly skillful piece that was hailed as a confirmation of Reger's artistry at the organ, and enjoyed great popularity from the very start./ Répertoire / Orgue

Description The greatest French organist of his day, Widor (1844–1937) composed 10 organ symphonies—actually solo compositions usually consisting of 6 or 7 short movements, that treat the organ as a kind of self-contained orchestra. Par AUVINEN ANTTI. Antti Auvinen (b. 1974) composed Singel Excelsis in 2012 using material from an earlier work for three organs. He finds fascinating the rhythmic characteristics of the organ: 'Many of the vibrations and rhythmic fluctuations derived from the overtone series are extremely interesting. Also the natural virtuosity of the instrument is utterly fascinating. In fast passages the rhythmic accuracy needs very quick attack. A slower attack on the other hand makes it possible to turn the attention to gestures and figures, while details get more blurred. Different ?attack features? of the organ stops allow shaping of very diverse rhythmic figures in time and space.' The Husum Organ Book from 1758 documents in a unique way how north-German organ music developed in the first half of the 18th century in the generations following Dieterich Buxtehude and Vincent Lübeck. It contains 17 original works from northern Germany. Twelve of these works are concertos in three or four movements for unaccompanied organ. The fact that these are original compositions is a novelty in music history. Most known works of this type were arrangements of orchestral works./ Répertoire / Orgue

Hermann Schroeder's abundant oeuvre in the field of chorale-bound organ music is much less known among organists than his free - especially the concertante - organ works, although Hermann Schroeder as an organist felt particularly bound to liturgy and liturgical singing. And according to him, any liturgical organ music should always bear a direct relation to singing. The purpose of the present anthology is to provide the player a representative selection of Schroeder's chorale arrangements. Most of these chorales are relatively short and of medium difficulty at most. The chorale melody can be heard well most of the time so that the pieces are ideal for being used in church services. In Der St. Georgenkirche Rötha. Par SZATHMARY ZSIGMOND. The composition 'Silberklänge” was commissioned for the 2020 International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition in Leipzig. The composer noted: 'During my first visit to the Georgenkirche in Rötha, I was impressed by the immensely vibrant and noble sounds of the historic Silbermann organ (1721), the endless variety of possible timbre combinations, the stellar acoustics of the church, and the historic atmosphere, which shaped and tamed my musical thoughts, transporting me into my very own 'baroque' world.” This edition contains registration marks that reflect the soundscape the composer intended to achieve with this particular organ. Although quite some time has passed since the multifaceted organ music from Spain's Golden Age could be called an 'insider's tip?, it had yet to attain popularity with any wide audience outside the countries of the Iberian Peninsula. The three-volume Urtext edition of selected works by Joan Cabanilles, the cathedral organist from Valencia, now has every chance of becoming a milestone in its own right. The Iberian organ tradition of the 17th century appears to have reached its climax in his tientos, diferencias and versos. Bach: Complete Organ Works Vol. 5 Sonatas / Trios / Concertos - ed. by Pieter Dirksen Organ Works Based on Compositions by Bach and Others Genres such as sonata, trio and concerto were initially uncommon in the keyboard music of the early 18th century. Thus it comes as no surprise that many of the pieces in this volume are arrangements by Bach of original compositions and of works by other composers. Next to the Sonatas BWV 525?530 and the Concertos or concerto movements based on pieces by other composers BWV 592?596, the volume also contains the Trio in D minor BWV 583, the Trio settings BWV 585?587 as well as the early versions of BWV 527 and 528. Moreover, the CD-ROM offers eight arrangements of trio movements by Bach made by others. In his detailed introduction, Pieter Dirksen discusses various aspects of these pieces' origins, inasmuch as they help us better understand the works. The organist will especially welcome the comments on performance practice and registration. It is precisely the fact that these works derive from chamber-music models that leads to individual considerations for each work group.
