Robert Sieving\'s arrangement of Allegro for Double String Orchestra by Antonio Vivaldi, RV593, originally a motet featuring the vocal setting of Psalm 69 for soprano, 2 oboes, 2 SATB choirs, and double string orchestra, provides the opportunity for two orchestras to perform in opposition and have a musical conversation through fugal writing. Sieving has maintained Vivaldi\'s writing and sound, as the two orchestras battle it out to be the reigning orchestra. Each orchestra and section have interesting parts, with string crossings, minimal shifting, stylistic Baroque bow use, and call and response sections or echo sections. Invite a neighboring orchestra to perform this wonderful double string piece or divide your orchestra in two groups. Much of his life was spent in Bayreuth working for the court of Wilhelmine of Prussia Margravine of Bayreuth teaching her composition and violin. During his lifetime he composed a variety of orchestra and chamber music including this Concerto in B-flat Major in three movements: Allegro ma non troppo Andante and Allegretto. This edition includes the full orchestral score orchestral parts as well as guitar and lute parts. Victor Van Puijenbroeck has adapted the original solo part and included in the set areparts for both lute (the part has been adapted from lute tablature to modern notation) and guitar (capotasto). Lament by Mack Wilberg for String Orchestra with optional Organ.This moving piece for String Orchestra is full of pathos and emotion. Stylistically evocative of Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings and the distinctive musical language of Arvo Pärt Lament is based around a two-bar arching ostinato artfully developing musical fragments and enriching the texture to reach a powerful central climax. The original version was premiered by Pinchas Zukerman and the St. Paul' s Chamber Orchestra conducted by Arturo di Mecke on September 12th 1986.Programme Note:The news of the tragic death of Samantha Smith reached me in the early stages of preparation for the commissioned work for viola and chamberorchestra. Already an admirerer of this childworker for peace and nuclear disarmament I completed my work strongly inspired by this unique and uniquely symbolic fate of our time. Music from humble sources - including my composition Beach Poppy a choral work from 1960 - are woven into the texture of the composition. Clara Wieck’s sincerest wish was that her future husband Robert Schumann turn his extraordinary genius toward the larger and more challenging task of composing orchestral music. Confiding in her diary in 1839 just one year before her marriage she explained that “it would be best if he composed for Orchestra: his imagination cannot find sufficient scope in the Piano…” In the years that followed their marriage Robert Schumann continued to devote much of his attention to Piano music but he also found the time to comply with his beloved Clara’s wish by creating a number of musical pieces composed specifically for Piano andOrchestra. Although Schumann’s genius is most in evidence in his masterful solo Piano compositions and superb lieder his lively and provocative imagination manifests itself with equal aplomb in the works composed for Piano and Orchestra. The same compelling romantic and lyrical qualities that captivate lovers of Schumann’s Piano music are evident in these compositions. Three of his finest are presented here in full score including the A Minor Piano Concerto one of the most popular and frequently performed concertos ever written. Volume 1-Olivier Messiaen (1908-1992) is known for his unique composition style. Incorporating complex rhythms harmony melodies and his passion for ornithology his Éclairs Sur L'Au-Delà for Orchestra is no exception to the composer's popular distinctive style. Composed between 1987-1991  Éclairs Sur L'Au-Delà was one of the composer's last works with the premiere occuring six months after his death. The work includes Messiaen's popular compositional techniques such as his modes of limited transposition and the use of birdsong.Messiaen's piece for orchestra is divided in to eleven movements and a typical performance lasts about one hour. Éclairs Sur L'Au-Delà is essential to all advanced orchestras seeking to expand and vary their repertoire.
