Nur wenigen ist bekannt, dass Franz Schubert sich jahrelang mit dem Komponieren von Opern und Theatermusik beschäftigt war. Insgesamt schrieb er nicht weniger als zehn vollständige Werke fürs Theater. Schubert hofft stets aus eine erfolgreiche Oper oder Theaterproduktion, die allerdings ausblieb. Dies lag wahrscheinlich hauptsächlich an den mittelmäßigen Libretti, die er zur Verfügung hatte. Der Musik, die er für das Theaterstück Rosamunde, Fürstin von Zypern schrieb ging es nicht anders. Im Oktober 1823 bekam Schubert den Auftrag, die Theatermusik zum Libretto von Helmina von Chézy zu schreiben. Obwohl er das Libretto erst im November erhielt, gelang es Ihm dennoch die neunNummern von Rosamunde in nur drei Wochen zu verfassen. Nach einigen Proben ging das Stück am 20. Dezember 1823 in Premiere am Theater an der Wien. Die verwirrende Geschichte - ein Durcheinander von romantischen Intrigen zwischen Prinzessinnen, Hirten und Jägern - konnte das Publikum allerdings nicht begeistern. Nichtssagend, ermüdend und unnatürlich, so lautete der Kommentar eines Kritikers. Es folgte auch nur eine Wiederholung und danach verschwand das Stück von der Bühne. Im Gegensatz zu der harten Kritik über das Libretto waren das Publikum und die meisten Kritiker sehr begeistert über die Musik Schuberts. Auch heute noch gilt Rosamunde als eines seiner bekanntesten Orchesterwerke, das hier durch das Arrangement Tohru Takahashi auch für Blasorchester zugänglich wurde.

We proudly bring you another one of Robert van Berigen’s spectacular arrangements of popular classical works, based on Franz Schubert’s famous song, The Trout, Op. 32, composed in 1817. Schubert liked the melody so much he used it again in his Trout Quintet in 1819. This arrangement will both charm and delight your audience.

Robert van Beringen hat bereits zahlreiche erfolgreiche Bearbeitungen klassischer Werke geschrieben. So basiert auch diese einfache Ouvertüre für Blasorchester auf einem bekannten klassischen Thema. Es handelt sich um das bekannte Lied Die Forelle (Opus 32 von 1817), das Franz Schubert im Jahr 1819 in seinem Forellenquintett verarbeitete.

Questa ouverture da concerto è liberamente ispirata dal celebre lied La Trota (op. 32) di Franz Schubert. Nel 1819, Schubert riprende il lied per farne il quarto movimento del suo celebre Quintetto in La maggiore, D.667 “La Trota”. Rimane del lied solamente un ritornello gioioso e vivace.

In the rich chalumeau register, a solo (or soli) clarinet voice quietly introduces the hauntingly beautiful melody. Layering into the texture, other voices add timbre and depth. The phrasing is exquisite, and teaching opportunities for legato playing abound. A modulation from B-flat to E-flat allows even more sonorities as the work moves to its conclusion.
