This first edition presents our latest selection of pieces from the composition 'Le Portrait de Daisy Hamilton', Koechlin's homage to the famous film actress Lilian Harvey. From a total of 89 short uninstrumented works, some of them even unfinished, the editor carefully and cleverly selected and assigned pieces to instruments which correspond best to the pieces' character. Of particular importance is the Quintet, which was premiered by the Rosé Quartet, with the composer at the piano, and described as a resounding success. Universal Edition was an early publisher of Walter works, and they are pleased to publish this first edition of the Quintet, in cooperation with the Bruno Walter estate at the University of Music and Performing Arts of Vienna. Beginning with rhythmical gamelan-inspired movement it continues through twirling scales that lead to the heart of the piece – a sonorous bell-like harmonic on the piano. From this calm center the music continues floating in a dream-like world ending with a chorale played by the strings. Duration: 10' This product includes the score (=piano part) and the string parts. Composer Maija Hynninen (b. 1977) is working in the areas of concert music, electronic instrument design and multidisciplinary performances. The essence of her music builds on the unique moments where the parameters of this world are slightly altered to allow a glimpse of another reality to be present. Initialement composée pour soprano et orchestre, Eliza Aria présente la princesse Elisa et exprime la pureté de son âme, son innocence et sa foi en la bonté du monde : Sans dire un mot, elle doit tisser des orties piquantes en tissu pour sauver ses frères ensorcelés. La courte et envoûtante vocalise est peut-être la création la plus connue d'Elena Kats-Chernin et a fait le tour du monde comme musique d'une vidéo publicitaire sur YouTube. Par STEFANELLI MATTHIEU. Composée entre 2019 et 2020, cette oeuvre est un hommage à la cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris. Suite à l'incendie, le titre m'est apparu comme une évidence à la vue des premières images à l'intérieur de l'édifice et m'a tout de suite donné l'envie d'écrire une composition à son sujet : les rosaces avaient totalement survécu à la catastrophe, intactes, et des faisceaux lumineux les traversaient pour éclairer la statue de la Vierge et l'enfant. J'ai imaginé 7 mouvements ponctués par 3 carillons pour retracer les moments forts de l'histoire de la cathédrale : l'Ecole de Notre-Dame et Pérotin, la Forêt, les grandes orgues, mais aussi l'incendie, la chute de la flèche. La pièce se clôture avec une vision paradisiaque des rosaces sur un choral réconciliateur de Mendelssohn extrait de l'oratorio Elias. Matthieu Stefanelli/ Répertoire / Quintette avec Piano
