Created during the First World War, Maurice Ravel's composition 'Le Tombeau de Couperin' casts a longing look at the past while at the same time being full to the brim with traces of modern music. Each of the six movements is dedicated to friends who died in battle. In 1919 Ravel arranged four of these movements for large orchestra by skilfully borrowing melodic lines and colours from the piano setting. In the present new arrangement written for the Stella Piano Trio, these elements were adjusted to the instrumentation and their relationship within the ensemble. As in Ravel's orchestration, each note is taken into account, even if the cello is sometimes given a melody which is an octave lower than the original./ Répertoire / Trio avec Piano

The famous Golliwogg’s Cakewalk is the final piece from Debussy's cycle Children’s Corner which consists of 6 miniatures for piano, written for his daughter in the years 1906-1908. The style corresponds to that of ragtime, a dance which was in vogue around the turn of the century. In the middle section, he parodies several times the beginning of the opera Tristan and Isolde by Richard Wagner with whom Debussy had a rather ambiguous relationship. Cette composition est une étape importante et une interface dans les travaux du Silvestrov : c'est la fin de sa ' période d'avant-garde ' et le début de ce qu'il appelle plus tard ' metamusic '. la structure de le oeuvre est unique : le premier mouvement de la Sonate pour violon et Piano, peut également être effectué séparément. Le deuxième mouvement, Sonate pour violoncelle et Piano, est une sorte d'intermezzo lyrique. Il n'est pas jusqu'à la troisième mouvement, Trio, que les instruments vraiment jouent ensemble, amenant le drame à une extrémité' métaphysique. Le travail est caractérisé par une variété exceptionnelle de couleurs de ton, jouant les techniques et les systèmes tonales. First performed at the Wigmore Hall in 1921 Rebecca Clarke’s Trio has good claim to be considered her masterpiece. This expressive and emotionally complex score is one of the outstanding utterances in British chamber music of the period and critics speculate that the musical imagery strongly suggest it may be a response to the experience of the Great War. A strong defiant and elegiac composition and a very rewarding piece.

Auf eine Melodie des kubanischen Musikstils Guajira und einen Text des dortigen Nationalhelden José Martí zurückgehend, wurde sie von José Fernández Díaz in den 30er-Jahren als Refrain zu Improvisationen über aktuelle Tagesthemen benutzt. Pete Seeger griff das Martí-Original 1963 bei einem Konzert in der New Yorker Carnegie-Hall wieder auf – es wurde zu einer „Hymne“ der amerikanischen Gewerkschaftsbewegung. In unzähligen Versionen ist der Titel seitdem gesungen worden, bis hin zum Rudi-Völler-Schlachtgesang, der im Jahre 2002 in den Fußballstadien widerhallte.
