Hungarian Rhapsody N° 2 is the second in a set of 19 Hungarian Rhapsodies by composer Franz Liszt, and is by far the most famous of the set. Few other piano solos have achieved such widespread popularity, offering the pianist the opportunity to reveal exceptional skill as a virtuoso while providing an immediate and irresistible musical appeal for the listener.Both the original piano solo form and the orchestrated version of this composition have found widespread use in animated cartoons. The Piano Concerto No. 24 in C Minor of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was composed in Vienna during the winter of 1785-86. It was premiered at the Vienna Burgtheatre in April 1786 only one month before the premiere of his opera The Marriage of Figaro in the same theatre. This piano concerto is one of his few works composed in a minor key, and is also the only one of the solo piano concerti he wrote to include clarinet parts. It is in three movements, (Allegro, Larghetto, Allegretto) and approximately 30 minutes in length.

The première - not a huge success - took place on 10 October 1935 in New York.With his opera, Gershwin wanted to gain recognition as a composer of classical music. Incidentally he demanded that all parts were sung by black performers; only a few unimportant parts,without sung lyrics, were allowed to be performed by white actors. This rule still applies: Gershwin has stated in the terms of his will that only black people were allowed stage the opera.Porgy & Bess has become popular only after Gershwin’s death. In 1959 a wonderful film was made; the soundtrack won a Grammy Award. The work is not very often performed, possibly because of the difficulty of finding a whole cast of black opera singers. However, various pieces from the opera are still regularly performed in numerous arrangements. Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring is the most common English title of the 10th and last movement of the cantata 'Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben', BWV 147 (Heart and Mouth and Deed and Life), composed by Johann Sebastian Bach in 1716 and 1723. Today, it is often performed at wedding ceremonies as well as during Christian festive seasons like Christmas and Easter, slowly and reverently. This is, however, in contrast to the effect suggested by Bach in his original scoring for voices with trumpet, oboes, strings, and continuo. This Canzon was originally included as part of the collection Canzoni per sonare con ogni sorte di stromenti, a volume of 36 canzoni by 13 different composers, first published in 1608. The publisher, Alessandro Raverii, was based in Venice, and though he only printed music between 1606 and 1609, more than 50 of his volumes have survived until today. This Canzon à 16 for four SATB choirs, has been arranged here for clarinet choir by Matt Johnston. It can be performed as a clarinet choir or as a quadruple clarinet quartet.

A 'hayashi' is a group of performers who provide musical accompaniment for Japanese Noh or kabuki theatre. In Noh, they are purely instrumentalists; the type of instruments featured and the order in which they sit on stage follow established practices. The leftmost performer plays a small taiko, set on a stand before him, with two drumsticks. To his right is the Åtsuzumi hip drum, followed by the kotsuzumi shoulder drum, and the Noh flute. In kabuki, a number of shamisen players are added, along with, depending on the play, taiko drums of various sizes, various types of flutes, and other instruments, including a myriad of devices for sound effects.
