With Piano Accompaniment-These books are arranged to be performed with various combinations of instruments. This volume presents some of the most beloved repertoire for the Christmas season. Some works are well known others will sound fresh and new tomost players. The pieces may be performed as a solo for each instrument (Violin 1 Violin 2 Viola or Cello) with piano accompaniment or as duets or trios as well as full orchestra. If performed with full orchestra the pianoaccompaniment is not necessary. The string ensemble series meets all standards for ASTA (American String Teachers Association) and Suzuki Association of the Americas Inc. If performed with full orchestra no solo parts should beplayed except the 1st violin part. Note also if you wish to perform these works with full orchestra and you are short certain instruments you still have some flexibility with the score. For example if there are not enoughviolas for balance the viola (harmony part) and 3rd violin part are identical. The part may be played with all 3rd violins or equally divided between 3rd violins and violas.

Fantasia for Violin and Piano-Born in Erfurt the composer Edward Mollenhauer (1827 1914) achieved success in America as a soloist and teacher. His best-known pieces for young violinists are The Infant Paganini and The Boy Paganini.The Mollenhauer fantasia The Infant Paganini is a charming introduction to early virtuoso techniques. It calls for bowing techniques such as detaché legato spiccato and arpeggios over three strings. Players are also expected to play harmonics and pizzicato.This showpiece (BA 10691) can be accomplished by young violinists who can play in first to third position and who are nearing completion of theSassmannshaus Early Start on the Violin volume 4.The Boy Paganini is an impressive concert piece which is more demanding. Its two movements call for changes of metre harmonics and pizzicato. Other challenges include chords on all four strings and simple passages in octaves.On the Violin (BA 10692) the technical requirements call for first to fifth position. (Memorial for the Columbia Astronauts). Par EOTVOS PETER. Eötvös wrote this piece in memory of the seven astronauts who lost their lives in the Space Shuttle Columbia tragedy in 2003. The number 7 determines the musical, rhythmic and formal structure of the work: 49 musicians are divided into seven groups, and as well as the solo violin there are six further violins arranged correspondingly around the hall; and the solo violin itself portrays each of the astronauts and their different origin, from America via Israel to India, in folkloristically tinged cadenzas. 'The violin concerto Seven is a very personal monologue and the musical expression of my sympathy towards the seven astronauts who lost their lives while exploring space in fulfilment of a fundamental dream of mankind.' Aus Preludes I für Violine und Klavier-The first volume of Debussy?s Préludes for Piano (HN 383) was published in 1910 and was soon followed by arrangements for various scorings commissioned by the original publisher. Debussy personally transcribedonly one Prélude Minstrels which was released in 1914 in a version for Violin and Piano.Back at that time ?Minstrels? was the name given to comedians who performed in blackface andcaricatured the alleged behaviour of Blacks in America. The arrangement is of interest not only to pianists since Debussy intervened in the original musical text by adding variants but also to violinists who willdiscover charming and rewarding music of medium difficulty (5 of 9).

Sonatina In G Op.100 was written in New York in 1893. Scored for Violin and Piano it comprises four movements: Allegro Risoluto - Larghetto (Indian Lament) - Scherzo and Trio: Molto Vivace - Finale:Allegro. La Melancolie is a famous melody first written by Ole Bull in 1850. It is often known under the name I Ensomme Stunde (?In Moments of Solitude?). It has been arranged here for solo Violin with Piano accompaniment. Ole Bull (1810-1880) was a Norwegian composer Violin virtuoso and nationalist. He started playing early in life performing as a soloist with the Bergen Philharmonic orchestra before the age of ten. He later studied in Paris where he met Chopin Rossini and Paganini before launching a highly successful career as a touring virtuoso performing all across the UK North America and mainland Europe. Few of hiscompositions have survived but perhaps best known is his Saeterjentens Sondag.

Le jeu du violon devient alors incisif, syncopé, parfois avec un brin de nostalgie. Pourquoi avoir fait un arrangement pour deux violons ? Nous n'avons pas toujours à disposition un pianiste pour accompagner. Dans ce style de musique, il me semble très important de ressentir la rythmique, et l'accompagnement y contribue largement - et puis cela permet aussi aux violonistes de jouer ensemble sur de multiples lieux de diffusion...
