My lecture of the Winterreise does not demand a new expressive interpretation, but instead systematically exercises the freedom which all interpreters allow themselves intuitively, such as: instrumental dilation i. e. acceleration of the pace, transposition into other keys and elaboration of characteristic color timbres. In addition, there are further ways of reading; the music; jumping around in the text, repeating certain lines, interrupting the continuity, comparing different expressions of the same phrase ... All these new possibilities are subjected to my compositional discipline and form autonomous formal processes which are imposed on Schuberts original. The transformation of the piano tones into a multifaceted orchestra full of resonance is only one of many aspects.(Hans Zender)CDs:Hans Peter Blochwitz (Tenor), Ensemble Modern, Conductor: Hans Zender CD BMG 9026-68067-2 Christoph Pregardien (Tenor), Klangforum Wien, Conductor: Sylvain Cambreling CD Kairos 0012002KAIJulien Pregardien (Tenor), Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Kaiserslautern, Conductor: Robert Reimer2 CD's P.RHEI (2016)Bibliography:Adam-Schmidmeier, Eva-Maria von: Schubert interpretieren. This music drama is approximately nine minutes in length and is perfect for incorporation into regular worship on Palm/Passion Sunday. John Parker’s inspired narrative opens the work with shouts of “Hosanna!†as Jesus enters Jerusalem. Mark Hayes’s score enters with growing intensity, and the choir sings a triumphant anthem of praise. The mood changes during the first interlude, as the high priests plot against Jesus, and the music beautifully underscores the scripture-based narrative. The second chorus conveys the scene at the Last Supper with haunting melodies and a lyrically flowing accompaniment. The mood of the following interlude is one of steadfast faith, quoting the hymn “All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name.†Its narrative is inspired by Philippians 2:5–11. The final chorus is a majestic yet reflective affirmation of faith in praise to Jesus, Who was faithful to His final breath.

The cantata Die Himmel erzahlen die Ehre Gottes (The heavens are telling of God in glory) BWV 76 by Johann Sebastian Bach was written for the 2nd Sunday after Trinity, which fell on 6 June 1723 in the year it was first performed. This ambitious two-part work was the second cantata which Bach wrote after taking up the position of Kantor of St. Thomas's in Leipzig. Bach's aim was evidently to demonstrate a particularly wide range of musical forms in both the arias and the recitatives in this cantata. The opening chorus is based on verses 2 and 4 of Psalm 19, with verse 4 structured as a choral fugue. Both parts of the cantata end with a chorale movement with different verses from the Lutheran hymn Es woll uns Gott genadig sein. The text refers loosely to the epistle reading from the 1st letter of St John, but deals more with general thoughts about the temptations of the Christian which can be overcome through love. Bach also performed the first part of the cantata later with minor revisions, but evidently no alterations to the text, on Reformation Day in Leipzig. Score available separately - see item CA.3107600.

Expressive choral writing anchors this poetic text that describes the bonds of attachment between people who care for one another.
