The numerous, mostly religious works of the Bohemian composer Andreas Hammerschmidt are composed with great craftmanship, and sound full and catchy. They were composed for 17th century village churches, in which they were sung by the congregation—and they are still familiar and popular today. Robert van Beringen took the advent hymn Lift Up Your Heads, Ye Gates and created this beautiful arrangement.

De talrijke, overwegend religieuze composities van de Boheemse componist Andreas Hammerschmidt zijn solide gecomponeerd, klinken vol en liggen goed in het gehoor. Deze eenvoudige werken werden in de zeventiende eeuw vooral voor dekerkkoren gecomponeerd. Zo zijn ze tot op de dag van vandaag bekend en populair gebleven. Robert van Beringen koos de titel Machet die Tore weit om het te bewerken voor harmonie- en fanfareorkest.

Die zahlreichen, vorwiegend geistlichen Kompositionen des böhmischen Komponisten Andreas Hammerschmidt sind handwerklich solide komponiert, voll klingend und eingängig. Sie wurden im 17. Jahrhundert vor allem für Dorfkirchen komponiert, wo sie von Laienchören gesungen wurden und so bis heute sich großer Verbreitung und Beliebtheit erfreuen. Robert van Beringen nahm sich des vorweihnachtlichen Titels Machet die Tore weit an und schuf daraus dieses wunderschöne Arrangement.

Les nombreuses oeuvres du compositeur et organiste baroque tchèque Andreas Hammerschmidt, sont résolument sonores, la fois mélodieuses et entraînantes, alliant les formes traditionnelles du 16e siècle des éléments de la nouvelle musique italienne. Plusieurs de ses compositions sont toujours chantées de nos jours et jouissent d’une grande popularité. Robert van Beringen nous propose un admirable arrangement du psaume 24, Machet die Tore weit.

COME ONE AND ALL! Come see the great Circus Bamboni! This four movement work, with flexible four-part instrumentation (+ drum set), will amaze and charm you like no other. The fi rst movement features the band as it tunes up and prepares for the show. Then the talented trapeze artists make an appearance as they fly through the sky high above the audience. The elephants parade around the ring with their very own Elephant Samba and the clowns follow leaving you in stitches! A thunderous chord and lots of applause bring the show to a breathtaking finale.

Willkommen im Zirkus Bamboni, der sich hier in vier kurzen Sätzen, komponiert für eine vierstimmig variable Besetzung mit Schlagzeug, präsentiert: Im ersten Satz stimmt das Zirkusorchester auf die Vorstellung ein. Dann schwingen die Trapezkünstler zu schwungvoller Musik durch die Zirkuskuppel. Die Elefanten beweisen mit der Elephant Samba Musikalität, bevor die Clowns die Manege in Aufruhr versetzen. Mit einem donnernden Schlussakkord, dem verdienten Applaus, endet die Vorstellung.

Benvenuti al Circo Bamboni che in questa composizione si presenta in quattro brevi movimenti, composti per strumentazione variabile a quattro voci con percussioni. Nel primo movimento l’orchestra intona gli strumenti, mentre nel secondo i trapezisti si esibiscono in volteggi spettacolari. In seguito gli elefanti mostrano la loro musicalit con Elephant Samba, prima che i pagliacci regalino risate e divertimento a tutti. Lo spettacolo si chiude con un potente accordo, il molto meritato applauso finale.

Excuse me, may I play along? Could you step aside, please?
‘Step Aside’ is a pleasant competition both between two tempi and among the different parts.
After a short, slow introduction it is the drummer who, without asking the questions above, sets the high pace. As soon as this rapid movement has been established, ‘part 1’ takes the lead, but the other parts obviously don’t want to miss a thing and follow in rapid succession.
At the end of the composition the various parts ‘compete’ in order to be able to play solo for a while, but soon others join in again, asking ‘Excuse me, may I play along?’

Mag ik er even bij? Zou je even aan de kant willen gaan?
Step Aside is een plezierige wedstrijd tussen twee tempi en tussen de stemmen onderling.
Na de korte, langzame inleiding is het de drummer die zonder deze vraag testellen het snelle tempo inzet. Als het snelle deel goed en wel op de rails staat, neemt 'stem 1' de leiding, maar de andere stemmen willen natuurlijk niets missen en volgen in rap tempo.
Aan het slot 'strijden' de verschillendestemmen om een stukje alleen te spelen, maar al snel zijn er weer anderen die vragen 'mag ik er even bij?'.
