This work was commissioned by St Dunstan's College South-East London for the celebration of its centenary in 1988. It is an anthem and uses a setting of Psalm 100. The work has three main sections (fast-slow-fast) and is essentially jubilant in nature. After a brief instrumental introduction the choir enters using as its text the first two verses of the Psalm. This reaches a climax on the word singing after which the music subsides into the serene key of C major for female voices only to sing a reflective tune on the words Know ye surrounded by various counter melodies on solo horn and trumpet. Male voices then take over this tune (inverted) and the final comment isleft to unaccompanied choir leaving sopranos on a held low D. At this point the last section begins. The mood is set by Organ and Percussion the style takes off its hat to minimalism with multi-layered textures underpinning the choral unison on the word Enter. Eventually the tonality heads towards G major and a reprise of the opening music with a coda full of energetic exuberance.

This piece is a joyous and exuberant chorus from Antonio Vivaldi's Domine ad adjuvandum me festina a polychoral motet based on Psalm 69. Originally scored for two choirs this edition by Patrick Liebergen is a shortenedversion of the first of three movements with a keyboard reduction of the full orchestral score and an optional trumpet part provided as the accompaniment. Outstanding choral masterwork.

POD-James Whitbourn's Agnus Dei From Missa Carolae. Missa Carolae was commissioned by Rochester Cathedral the second oldest cathedral in England to mark the 1400th anniversary ofits foundation. It was first performed there on 24 December 2004 by the Rochester Cathedral Choirs Andy Findon (Fife) the Locke Brass Consort Edmund Aldhouse (Organ) Joby Burgess and Catherine Ring (Percussion) directed byRoger Sayer. The work is intended to invoke a dance-like spirit which is true to the origin of the carol as a simple dance form. The choir parts should be very well-known so that the singers can sing with the whole oftheir bodies and not just their voices. This version is a reduced scoring for SATB (unchanged) with Organ and optional Piccolo and also acts as the vocal score to the full version. In this scoring the Piccolo adds to theeffectiveness of the piece. In either scoring the Piccolo may be replaced with a Flute Fife or even a more rustic Pipe as was used at the first performance. The original scoring for SATB with Piccolo Brass (3 Trumpetsand 3 Trombones) Percussion (2 players) and Organ accompaniment is the preferred version.
