Short, sweet and swingin'! Willie Maiden's arrangement of I'll Be Seeing You packs a whopper in a tiny box, making this chart perfect as an encoure closer for any set. As recorded by Maynard Ferguson and his orchestra on the album Dancing Sessions, Willie's arrangement makes great use of the trombone section as they carry the melody upfront before passing it around to the rest of the band. There is some space for a short trumpet solo before the band comes roaring in at the end to take it out with a punch! This chart should be in every band's library! 5-4-4-3 (opt. original instrumentation available as 4-4-2-3).

This arrangement by Oliver Nelson is a gorgeous alto saxophone feature of Cole Porter's I Worship You. The alto player can either perform the solo part (completely written out) as originally played and recorded by Cannonball Adderley on his album Domination, or can choose to read the basic melody and improvise. There is also short solo space for piano. Clarinet doubles are required, but the ensemble writing is very playable. This is a great alto feature on a beautiful melody! 5-4-4-3.

This arrangement of I Hope In Time a Change Will Come came about through a desire to hear/play more than one chorus of this stunningly beautiful melody by Oliver Nelson. The basis for this new arrangement was Nelson's original chart, but this one is two choruses, not one. Part of the second chorus can be improvised. The soloist throughout is soprano saxophone (could be played on tenor saxophone or trumpet if you so desire). This is a slow, gorgeous ballad that will thrill your audiences. 5-4-4-3.

The quintessential Flag-Waver (as recorded on the 1959 album The Jazz Soul of Porgy and Bess, featuring the Bill Potts Big Band), this one is a real romp through a happy tune and a brilliant chart, arranged to feature everyone in the band. Recorded on the Contemporary Concepts LP, this great standard is turned into a marvelous vehicle for solo statements from alto, tenor, 2 different trumpets and baritone saxophone. This chart was recorded by the Count Basie Orchestra on the CD I Told You So. This is yet another terrific Holman chart written for that band! A medium-tempo swing chart which features, among other things, a marvelous sax soli (about three choruses).
