Commissioned by the Hickory NC Choral Society for their 35th anniversary season Dan Forrest's Requiem For The Living is scored for mixed choir with solos for boy soprano and/or mezzo-soprano soprano & tenor. The instrumentation is available for large orchestra or chamber ensemble. Combining both liturgical and non-liturgical texts in some cases the traditional texts are slightly re-arranged for contextual emphasis. This powerful five movement work projects a wide range of meaningful expression from a biting essay on the vanity and pain of existence to a plea for mercy and a celebration of eternal light. Trinity Sunday Mass-The Missa in honorem SS:mae Trinitatis K.167 is Mozart's only mass bearing a dedication in its title and the only one written for chorus and orchestra without vocal soloists. We do not know the occasion for which the mass was written although it was undoubtedly related to the dedication. Perhaps it was first performed on Trinity Sunday 1773 since the autograph bears the date Giugno 1773 and Trinity Sunday fell an 5 June that year. The heavy scoring - for two oboes two clarini two trombe timpani two violins bass and organ - suggests that the mass owes its origin to a special festivity.Urtext of the New Mozart EditionFull score performance material(BA4783) and vocal score (BA4783-90) available for sale.

Uses: General Lent Ash Wednesday Holy WeekScripture: I John 1:9; Psalm 51:10-12; Hebrews 8:12From the pages of concert music repertoire comes an adaptation that incorporates the power of theoriginal masterwork with the impact of a new sacred text. Contemplative in nature the cry for forgiveness and mercy rises like a prayer from the luxurious textures of the choral sonority. Linear voice leading gives thisthrough-composed anthem an organic quality flowing with emotion and religious devotion. A noble orchestration crowns the whole with dignity and nobility.
