Experience 'rush-hour rock' like you've never experienced before! This easy-grooving, well-crafted original derives its automotive charm from the various car horn effects played throughout. Various novelty percussion instruments such as the police whistle and bulb horn will car pool your audience from the concert hall to the expressway. A charming piece that will put a smile on everyone's face, even if they get stuck in traffic on the way home from the concert!

Traffic Jam represents my idea of rush hour rock. This work derives its automotive charm from the various car horn effects played throughout. The most important articulation in the work is the marcato accent. Whenever this articulation appears, a car horn is being honked. Each honk should be percussive and short. Although the honks are dissonant, their composite notes should be balanced. It is recommended that the various honks be isolated during rehearsal, so that just the right sound and feel is achieved. Other important sounds include the police whistle and bulb horn. These novelty instruments should be held high for the audience to see and hear. With over 4 million miles of roads in the United States, one is destined to experience automotive gridlock. So before giving into road rage, roll down the windows, turn on the radio, and enjoy a traffic jam!

Appropriate within the first year of instruction and beginning of the second year. Clarinets do not go above the break, and there is limited use of accidentals. Plenty of doublings in the lower voices. Grade 1.

Breeze in the Forest was commissioned for the concert to celebrate the 60th birthday of Professor Haruyuki Nakatsukasa of Osaka Kyoiku University. “Kanreki” is a special term used to celebrate reaching the age of 60 in Japan. The composer was inspired by some of Professor Nakatsukasa’s admirable characteristics upon composing this work: he speaks softly and at the same level as his students; he is fashionable, stylish and refined. The band accompaniment is at a moderate level of difficulty, allowing the solo flautist to choose this work for many an occasion.

Dit werk werd geschreven ter gelegenheid van het ‘Kanreki-concert’ voor de zestigste verjaardag van professor Haruyuki Nakatsukasa van de Osaka Kyoiku University. Kanreki is een speciale term die in Japan wordt gebruikt wanneer iemand de leeftijd van zestig heeft bereikt. De componist haalde zijn inspiratie uit een aantal mooie eigenschappen van Nakatsukasa: hij spreekt zacht en weet zijn studenten in hun eigen taal te benaderen; hij is eigentijds, stijlvol en verfijnd. De harmonieorkestbegeleiding is van een gemiddelde moeilijkheidsgraad, zodat de solofluitist dit werk voor diverse gelegenheden op het programma kan zetten.

Breeze in the Forest“ wurde für ein Konzert anlässlich des 60. Geburtstags von Prof. Haruyuki Nakatsukasa von der Osaka Kyoiku University in Auftrag gegeben. Kanreki“ ist ein spezieller Begriff, mit dem in Japan das Erreichen des 60. Lebensjahres gefeiert wird. Der Komponist ließ sich bei der Komposition dieses Werks von einigen der bewundernswerten Eigenschaften von Prof. Nakatsukasa inspirieren: Er spricht leise und auf Augenhöhe mit seinen Schülern; er ist modisch, stilvoll und gebildet. Die Orchesterbegleitung hat einen mittelschweren Schwierigkeitsgrad, sodass Soloflötisten dieses Werk bei vielen Gelegenheiten aufführen können.

Au Japon, le terme « kanreki » qualifie le 60e anniversaire d’une personne. For Cityscapes, the composer used the metropolis of New York, the largest city of the United States, as a source of inspiration. The first movement mirrors the skyline of the ‘Big Apple’. In movement two, Central Park is introduced and in the closing movement of this triptych, the ever-sparkling Manhattan, known for its many skyscrapers, and its financial centre Wall Street, is the focal point. Not only are the busy city traffic and the chaotic hustle and bustle expressed in the music, but also the impressive buildings, including the famous Empire State Building. Voor Cityscapes heeft de componist zich laten inspireren door de metropool New York, de grootste stad in de Verenigde Staten. Het eerste deel verklankt de skyline van de ‘Big Apple’. Cityscapes (“Paysages urbains”) est une œuvre inspirée d’une série d’impressions et de paysages de la métropole de New York, la plus grande ville des États-Unis.Dans le premier mouvement, l’impressionnante ligne d’horizon de « La Grosse Pomme » s’étire devant nous. Manhattan, le pont de Brooklyn et la Statue de la Liberté sont l’essence du thème principal. Les dernières mesures de ce premier mouvement font référence la célèbre Symphonie n° 9 dite « du Nouveau Monde » que le compositeur tchèque Antón Dvorák composa lors d’un séjour New York.Le second mouvement est consacré Central Park, l’immense parc new-yorkais construit au XIXe siècle, etdestiné aux loisirs, au divertissement et la relaxation. Plusieurs b timents célèbres, tels que le Metropolitan Museum of Art, jalonnent Central Park.Le troisième et dernier mouvement de ce triptyque dépeint l’esprit bouillonnant de Manhattan, quartier célèbre pour abriter d’impressionnants gratte-ciel et la Bourse de Wall Street. A city is founded—– it has a heart that beats.
