Airs Célèbres D'Opéras Vol.2 for Flute or Oboe and Piano is an anthology of famous pieces arranged by Armando Ghidoni. Written for intermediate players this second volume features five pieces which can be played along with the CD which includes the Piano part for each song. The five pieces are: - Una Furtiva Lagrima from 'L'Elisir d'Amore' by Donizetti - A Leucade from 'La Belle Hélène' by Offenbach - Marche Des Trompettes from 'Aïda' by Verdi - Scorrendo Uniti from 'Rigoletto' by Verdi - Coro Zingarelle from 'Traviata' by Verdi Armando Ghidoni isan Italian musician who is very famous in France. He composed and arranged a large variety of pieces influenced by the impressionism à la française and incorporating jazz rhythms to his music. He composed religious pieces operas and numerous pieces of chamber music among others.

Created in 1943 as part of the four exam pieces for the Paris Conservatoire this charming Sonatine for Flute and Piano is part of the early works of Henri Dutilleux (1916-2013) a French Composer following the paths of Maurice Ravel and Claude Debussy. Even though the composer was later quite critical about it this Sonatine which lasts 9 minutes is the most recorded of his compositions and has become a standard in the flute repertoire. Composed of three movements it begins with a tempo “Allegretto” followed by a part more “Andante” and finishes with a cadence “Animé”. Henri Dutilleux was internationally acclaimed for his work winning prizes such as the Gold Medal of the Royal Philharmonic Society and the UNESCO's International Rostrum of Composers among many others. His work also includes sonatas for piano and for oboe two symphonies the cello concerto Tout un monde lointain (A whole distant world) the violin concerto L'arbre des songes (The tree of dreams) and the string quartet Ainsi la nuit (Thus the night).

Hungarian composer László Lajtha first studied at the Academy of Music in Budapest before moving to Paris to study with Vincent d'Indy. Initially in collaboration with Béla Bartók and Zoltán Kodály Lajtha studied the transcription of the Hungarian folk song. He soon began composing other significant work including Sonate En Concert for Flute and Piano often incorporating Hungarian influences. Lajtha's composition catalogue comprises mainly of orchestral works however Sonate En Concert for Flute and Piano is made up of four movements; 1)Entrance with Two Cadences 2) Nostalgic Berceuse 3) Melancholic Menuet and 4) Gay Finale. The work is highly virtuosic addressing advanced features such as variations in articulation complex rhythms exploitation of the ensemble chromaticism and uses of extended techniques including flutter tonguing. For all advanced flautists Lajtha's Sonate En Concert is an exciting addition to the repertoire.
