Overture to a New Age (?Ouverture d?une nouvelle ère?) débute avec une introduction solennelle suivie d?un canevas vif et rythmé. L?intervention du saxophone soprano solo marque le début d?un passage expressif et riche en contrastes. Un long crescendo précède le retour du motif initial. L?œuvre se termine sur une trame processionnelle dont la ligne mélodique annonce l?ouverture d?une ère nouvelle. Le thème du passage vif est alors réexposé et chemine en superposition à celui de la trame processionnelle. La coda grandiose illumine cette brillante ouverture.

Par SHELTON MELVIN L.. Shifting harmonies in the stately but exciting opening introduce a lovely lyric theme. A gorgeous 8-measure Alto Sax solo (cued Tpt. ) brings in a second, extended lyric theme which gradually develops beautiful counterpoint reminiscent of a Romantic serenade. Melvin Shelton’s sensitive scoring makes this excellent concert and contest offering both accessible and worthwhile. Norwegian Festival Overture. Par HALVORSEN JOHAN. The Norwegian Festival Overture was written for the grand opening of the National Theatre on September 1st, 1899. In the opening bars, one can virtually imagine the stage curtain being drawn aside, and the stage is revealed to the audience. The trumpets openly quote Peer Gynts return from Grieg's music to the play Peer Gynt. The main part of the overture consists of a theme in Norwegian folk music style, which Halvorsen brilliantly develops thematically and contrapuntally. The work can probably be seen as pompous and at times seems somewhat overwrought, but then Halvorsen himself, ever so slightly self-deprecating, has written Pomposo over the grand conclusion of the work. The arrangement of the overture was written to The Royal Norwegian Navy Band for a concert in Halvorsen’s native town of Drammen in 2016. The arranger has tried to preserve as much as possible of Halvorsen's brilliant orchestration. Het middendeel bevat een bugelsolo die bestaat uit een steeds terugkerend thema dat iedere volgende keer een tel in de maat verschuift. Dit thema is zeer 'dolce' en voegt zich mooi in de transparante begeleiding. Verder wisselen overweldigende gedeelten met dramatische akkoorden zich af met motorisch stuwende passages.Het werk sluit af met een tot een climax voerend coda. Fort Fincastle was built in 1793 by royal governor 'Lord Dunmore at an unusual location: Nassau the capital of the Bahamas. The name of the fort: Fort Fincastle' comes from Dunmore's second title of Viscount Fincastle '( Earl of Fincastle). He gave the fort a particular shape a circular building with a sharp expansion in the form of a bow or bow of ship. In order to deceive enemy ships. The sounds of the first bars show the contours of a looming majestic stronghold after a heroic theme follows. Soon we hear the threat of hostile elements. Work on the fort means much waiting and lonely but you should always alert and vigilant for the ever lurking attack. Bright Dawn Overture est une commande de l?Association suisse des Musiques dans le cadre d'un projet de renouvellement et d'élargissement du répertoire artistique. 'Il n'y a jamais eu une nuit ou un problème capable de vaincre l'aube ou l'espoir.' : cette phrase du philosophe anglais Bernard Williams a inspiré Franco Cesarini dans la composition de cette ouverture. En fait, même à la nuit la plus sombre suit toujours le lever du soleil et de manière métaphorique, à chaque moment de difficulté, l'homme s'accroche à l'espoir d'un avenir meilleur. Bright Dawn Overture est écrite sous la forme classique d'une ouverture à l'italienne (rapide-lent-rapide). Elle se veut être un hymne d'espoir de la relance, après une période de grande difficulté. Un thème unique caractérise la composition, passant par les différents registres et se présentant, sans cesse modifié, sous de nouvelles formes. Dans la partie centrale, le thème prend un caractère presque mystique, tandis que dans le final, il se présente sous une forme héroïque et conclut la composition par un signe d'optimisme péremptoire.
