It makes use of several modern playing techniques covered in Dehnhard’s book “The New Flute” and also those touched upon in his previous publication “Flutebeatboxing”. Glissandi, sing-and-play, bisbigliandi and reverse sound are all included, along with some thought-provoking ideas for the pianist! French composer and conductor Henri Tomasi (1901-1971) published Concertino for Flute in 1946. As with his other wind compositions Concertino was well-received by audiences. Tomasi was born in Marseille but his Father and Mother were originally from La Casinca in Corsica. Despite being pressured into musical studies by his parents Tomasi dreamed of becoming a sailor and during the summer he stayed with his Grandmother in Corsica where he learnt traditional Corsican songs. However in 1921 he began his studies at the Paris Conservatoire and went on to become a high profile composer and conductor.Tomasi did not forget his Corsican routes often incorporating themes of the songs he had learnt during the summers with his Grandmother into his compositions. Concertino for Flute and Piano Reduction is a highly unusual and modern work in three movements; 1) Cadence and Allegretto 2) Largo and 3) Finale. This Tomasi piece is suitable to advanced flautists providing an exciting alternative addition to the instrument's repertoire.

Composed between 1920 and 1921 this set of Histoires is a suite of four short movements by Jacques Ibert selected out of the ten initial ones for Flute and Piano. This publication was commissioned by the Alphonse Leduc editors and increased Jacques Ibert’s popularity. This four pieces are as followed : 3. Le vieux mendiant (The old beggar) 4. “A Giddy girl” 6. Le palais abandonné (The abandoned palace) 7. Bajo la mesa (Under the table) The difficulty of these works will fit intermediate to upper intermediate players. Jacques Ibert(1890-1962) also composed many symphonic suites operas and seven orchestras including 'Angelique' (1926) and 'Entertainment' (1930). He also was in charge of the French Academy in the Villa Médicis (Roma) and became later administrator for the Paris Opera.
