Impressionné par le Faust de Goethe, Hector Berlioz décide en 1828-1829 de composer Huit Scènes sur l'oeuvre du poète allemand, puis, en 1846, entreprend d'augmenter ce premier essai et intitule désormais l'ensemble la Damnation de Faust. Cette oeuvre se trouve à mi-chemin entre l'oratorio, la symphonie et l'opéra, et illustre ce genre nouveau que le compositeur appelle lui même ' Légende dramatique '. La création qui a lieu le 6 février est elle un événement mémorable. C'est lors d'une tournée à Budapest que Berlioz décide d'y introduire cette marche populaire qu'il a orchestrée. De par ma vocation, j'ai souvent été amené à tenir l'orgue toute une veillée de Noël, donc, de jouer pendant une demi-heure à trois quarts d'heure avant la messe de minuit ou de la veille au soir. Pour cela, je disposais des Noëls de Daquin, de quelques pièces choisies dans Clérambault ou Couperin, de la ' Pastorale ' ou de la ' Fantaisie en Ut ' de César Franck et des ' Variations sur un Noël ' de Marcel Dupré. Voulant agrandir le répertoire, j'ai cherché à renouveler et à moderniser le style de Daquin et de Dandrieu, toujours si naïf, et parfois même narquois ou goguenard, tout en l'élargissant en évitant toutefois d'aller jusqu'à la tendance ' Grand Concert ' comme chez Marcel Dupré. / Niveau : Moyen à Assez Difficile / Contemporain / Répertoire / Orgue
