He was referring to the Sonata forClarinet and Pianoforte op. 107. Reger made a point of not destroying the chamber music character of the work by having too much virtuosic padding. This work which was written shortly after the Trumpet Sonata and the Five Pieces For Piano was first performed by Georgina Dobree and the composer at the 1957 Darmstadt Festival. The score was subsequently lost but wasrediscovered by Kevin Corner in 1983.'This is a dramatic emphatic and at times extravagant piece. The first movement is a Moderato reaching through wide-flung clarinet lines and keen piano gestures to a great climax near theend. Then comes a quick movement a kind of demonic scherzo including a cadenza for the clarinettist. The finale is an Adagio that gradually achieves a sort of simplicity though not before exceedingly testing times for bothplayers.Duration c. 25mins.

G.F.Handel's (1685-1759) Sonata In B Flat is well-known to the Oboe repertoire. Revised Edition - Based on Manuscript Sources-The 'Sonata for Clarinet and Piano' was Bernstein's first published composition. Sources for this new revised edition were Bernstein's pencil manuscripts of the clarinet and piano score as well as the separate clarinet part. Every detail of the sonata has been carefully prepared and reconsidered. The enharmonic note spellings in the clarinet part are different from the previous edition of the sonata and are likened more closely to that of the first published edition. The result is a fresh look at one of the most important and beloved pieces of twentieth century clarinet repertoire.

The composer and violin virtuoso Johann Stamitz not only established the world-famous Mannheim school in the 18th century but is known among clarinettists above all for presumably being the first to present them with a true solo concerto. Even though Stamitz left it at just this one concerto, it has enjoyed great popularity since its rediscovery in the 20th century and has become a standard work in the concert repertoire. Due to its moderate technical demands, it is ideally suited for music students as a ?first? solo concerto, and as preparation for the more demanding solo parts of Mozart, Weber and Spohr.
