After a brief introduction the violas introduce the first melodic theme then pass it to the first violins in octaves as This Land Is Your Land by Woody Guthrie, Level 4 arrangement by Ethan Epple develops. Epple sets the Americana stage in This Land Is Your Land through staccato, shifting to 5th position, creating a broad pitch range, pizzicato, syncopation and a key change moving seamlessly from D Major to G Major, while each instrument carries the melody and counter melody. Ethan Epple\'s version of This Land Is Your Land must be in your library for recruitment, Veterans Day, Flag Day, the Fourth of July, or just because This Land Is Your Land creatively rounds out your next concert. / Date parution : 2022-07-30/ Répertoire / Orchestre à Cordes

In 3/4, this moving piece provides a great opportunity for the use of slow bow strokes and cross-curricular study. The victory over the British forces at Yorktown, Virginia by the American Continental Army in 1781 signaled the end of the Revolutionary War. This original work by Todd Parrish remembers the heroic efforts of General Washington and the brave soldiers he commanded to forge a new nation founded on freedom. (2:30) / Orchestre A Cordes

Written to celebrate the 110th Anniversary of the Joliet Township High School Orchestras of Illinois, 'Stone and Steel' is a modern concert overture by Richard Meyer that treats the listener and performer to a myriad of styles and moods. The piece begins with a heavy, ponderous theme marked 'Molto pesante,' which depicts the limestone quarries that first earned Joliet the nickname 'City of Stone' in the early 1800s. The mood soon changes and we can visualize huge barges laden down with stone, making their way through the city's large lift bridges and into the famous Illinois and Michigan Canal on their way to regional customers. With the construction of a steel mill in 1869, Joliet became known as the 'City of Steel.' Stone and steel were now shipped by both canal and railroad, and this exciting new age is represented by a modern, fast-moving theme in a bright major key. The two themes, 'stone' and 'steel,' are then further developed, and the piece culminates in a majestic, celebratory final statement of the 'steel' theme. (6:00) / Orchestre A Cordes

A moving tribute by Susan Day to the people we admire---whether it be family members, role models, or those serving our country---this piece in E minor uses easy rhythms, pizzicato, some divisi in the cello part, and a few low 2nd fingers in the violin 1 part. All players get melody lines, and the violin 2 part doubles the viola. Sounds harder than it is! (2:30) / Orchestre A Cordes
