Snow, Moon and Flowers est une oeuvre pour violoncelle, saxophone et piano inspirée des Cent Vues d'Edo d'Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858).
Caractéristiques du mouvement artistique ukiyo-e, ces estampes gravées dans le bois puis reproduites sur papier sont publiées au milieu du XIXè siècle. Si elles célèbrent la beauté de la nature, elles saisissent également ces instants contemplatifs et rêveurs de la vie quotidienne ; ces moments intimes où l'on peut s'émerveiller de l'immensité d'un ciel étoilé, savourer la fraîcheur de l'ombre d'un cerisier, écouter le craquement de nos pas sur la neige, ou encore flâner au bord d'une rivière et apprécier le chant des oiseaux. A une époque où l'agitation prend parfois le pas sur notre quotidien, ce sont ces images sereines et contemplatives, et le lyrisme poétique de ces paysages japonais qui m'ont attirée et inspirée pour cette oeuvre.
La pièce s'articule ainsi en dix épisodes, chacun représentant un de ces moments rares et précieux.

The two-movement, incompletely transmitted Horn Concerto in D major K. 412 was long considered as Mozart?s first horn concerto - it is, however, his last, and was written between March and December 1791. Mozart undertook revisions in the autograph ? which contains the most important orchestral parts next to the entire solo horn part ? in order to adjust the work to the modest technical abilities of the planned soloist Joseph Leutgeb. Mozart revised and completed the first movement, eliminated lower notes in the solo part, rewrote difficult passages and expanded orchestral interludes to give Leutgeb additional breath rests. Mozart also made similar simplifications in the second movement as well, but his early death prevented the completion of the work.Robert D. Levin reconstructed both versions of the concerto on the basis of the autograph. Next to the version revised by Mozart (?post correcturam?), he now presents the original version (?ante correcturam?) for the first time in a musical text revised and supplemented according to rigorous philological criteria. / Conducteur

Couverture Rigide. Par MARTINU BOHUSLAV. Replaces H 277 The two concertos contained in this volume represent two different stylistic periods within Martinu's work. The 'Concerto da Camera” (1941) is the last of his works inspired by the Baroque concerto grosso. The 'Rhapsody-Concerto”, composed eleven years later (1952), was the first work of his so-called 'fantasia period”, marked by a more open sense of form and an expansion of tonality. The edition of the 'Concerto da Camera' shows, for the first time, the extend of Martinu's modifications to the work since its composition and publication, particularly on the solo violin part. The edition of the 'Rhapsody-Concerto” takes into account, among others, the discovery of previously unknown contemporary performance materials. This volume of the Bohuslav Martinu-Complete Edition (BMCE) is based on a wealth of text and music sources, in particular autographs and contemporary copies that were recognized by the composer and early performers of the works, as well as some first editions created in collaboration with Martinu./ Répertoire / Conducteur

Par HAYDN FRANZ JOSEF. Haydn composed his Symphony No. 77 along with his Symphonies Nos. 76 and 78 for a planned journey to England that never took place. Nonetheless, H.C. Robbins Landon calls these works the 'English symphonies” as they are stylistically closely linked to the 'London Bach”, Johann Christian Bach. Haydn himself, in a letter of 1783 to his Parisian publisher Charles-Georges Boyer, described the symphonies as 'Leicht und nicht vil Concertirend”, meaning that they were light in spirit and did not contain extensive solo passages but rather a clear sense of classical form. Continuing the cooperation between Bärenreiter and the G. Henle publisher regarding Haydn's large-scale choral works, operas and symphonies, this edition is based on the G. Henle Complete Edition of the 'Works of Joseph Haydn”. The Bärenreiter catalogue now includes the complete performance material for several 'Sturm und Drang” symphonies as well as all the London and Paris symphonies./ Répertoire / Conducteur

Handel's 'Il pastor fido”, HWV 8a, is the most modest of his Italian operas: With over half of its numbers drawing from musical material of earlier Italian cantatas, the work deliberately reflects the pastoral style of the Italian serenata. In order to capture the simplicity of this approach to form, Handel made use of several different techniques, such as a consistent use of high vocal registers, an abundance of monothematic da capo arias, and an overall prevalence of held-back arias. 'Il pastor fido” did not lend itself particularly well for an opera adaptation: Reducing the original text to the scale of an opera libretto posed an immense challenge. With drastic cuts, Handel's librettist Rossi condensed five acts with eighteen characters into three acts with only six roles. The libretto – a paltry sketch of the complex original drama – was not well received. But Rossi had actually done his best to add a sense of coherence to the story while preserving at least some of Guarini's poetic language. This 'Halle Handel Edition' volume compares several sources that were not available for earlier editions. Amongst other things it presents the first modern edition of the complete overture, the complete stage instructions from the libretto, and an alternative ending for the duet of Mirtillo and Amarilli in the third act./ Répertoire / Conducteur

This piece takes its title from a painting by Daniel Maclise (1806-1870) in the Manchester City Art Gallery. Its subject is the mock Celtic Legend of a water nymph who falls for a mortal and struggles hopelessly to leave her element and join him on land. The Gods taking pity on her failure intervene and turn her into a harp transforming her weeping into a gentle music of wind through strings.

Opera in three parts-The libretto of Handels shortest opera is based on Plutarchs account of the life of the cruel Roman consul and dictator Lucius Cornelius Sulla. He was a figure who went down in history above all for his reign of terror his libertine life-style andhis unexpected abdication and withdrawal to private life. As Sulla voluntarily declined his rulership Handel was able to provide a lieto fine - the happy ending typical of Baroque opera.
