Companion CD to the Songbook-This companion CD will assist harp players in learning the pieces in the 52 Scottish Songs for All Harps book. Since many will want to ?play along? as they learn Sylvia has recorded most of the pieces slowerthan they are usually played and as ?straight? as possible with little or no expression or rhythmic variations. Each piece has two arrangements: (A) an easy version and (B) one that is more difficult. On theserecordings Sylvia plays version A directly followed by version B. Since the two versions can be played as a duet you can play either version along with the recording. The companion CD includes all the pieces from the book and inthe same order.

This wonderful book contains a collection of dances and ayres from the Renaissance period arranged for the harp. Most of the pieces were written in the 1500's and were originally intended for keyboard lute or voice. All of the arrangements can be played on a folk harp although some do have accidentals which may require the use of sharping levers. This is an excellent book designed to bring the harpists of today the music of the Renaissance.

A Traditional Irish Christmas Carol Arranged for Solo Harp-That Night in Bethlehem is the gorgeous traditional Irish Christmas carol Don Oíche ud i mBeithil. Sylvia has created a 4-verse arrangement playable on lever or pedal harp. Each verse is a bit harder than the one before so less experienced players can play the verses at their level. The music is in the key of E minor (1 sharp). There is one C# lever change in the 3rd verse. Fingerings and chord symbols are included. The lyrics printed in the music are David Monks' English translation. The original Irish Gaelic and a phonetic version are included on the last page. This beautiful Celtic carol will be a wonderful addition to your Christmas repertoire.

Brocéliande is a piece for Harp by Annie Challan. Lasting 2’30 minutes this piece was written for elementary level (upper beginner / intermediate level). It can be played on lever or pedal Harps as there are only a few accidentals. This tribute to the magical forest is the perfect piece to be played in recitals. Annie Challan (born in 1940) is a French Harpist who was the youngest player at the Paris Operas when she started working there. She composed numerous pieces for the Harp.

For intermediate players Guitare Op.50 is a melodious piece by Alphonse Hasselmans. Composed ideally for pedal Harps this piece includes some pedal changes and some accidental alterations. Three sections can be differentiated: Allegro Moderato (3/8) Pas trop retenu (3/4) and Tempo 1 (3/8). The last part is a variation of the theme played in the Allegro Moderato section. Perfect for a recital this piece for Harp is really enjoyable to play and to listen to. Alphonse Hasselmans (1845-1912) is a Belgian-born French harpist a great composer and renowned professor. He has composed and transcribed numerousworks for the Harp. He also edited and reviewed a collection of works by Bochsa. His most famous piece is a concert piece called The Wellspring Op. 44.

As a student of famous harpist Lily Laskine Denise Mégevand (1917-2004) received high quality musical education and was significantly instrumental in the revival of the Celtic Harp. She compiled numerous prolific books for the instrument Play and Learn the Celtic Harp being no exception. The Celtic Harp characteristically has metal strings and is notoriously challenging to play. However Mégevand's Play and Learn the Celtic Harp provides excellent and clear instruction to progression on the instrument. The book addresses general principles of the Celtic Harp intervals arpeggios chords and scales as well as including 13 pieces. Célèbres Études pour la harpe-Composed by?Nicolas-Charles Bochsa Twenty-five studies Op. 62?is a set of part of the 'Favourite studies' from the same author for intermediate and advanced Harp players. Reviewed by Alphonse Hasselmans each studies has a different difficulty level and can be played separately. This set of studies will help the Harpist to gain in flexibility and speed and would ideally be played on pedal Harps. In the same series Bochsa also composed a set of 'Forty easy studies Op. 318' a set of 'Twenty studies' in two books and one called 'Fifty studies Op.34'. All these sets havebeen reviewed by Alphonse Hasselmans professor at the Paris Conservatoire who also indicated the best finger positions to use.

Love Theme from 'Titanic'-Sylvia Woods has created harp arrangements of the popular love theme from the movie Titanic “My Heart Will Go On.” An easy arrangement and an intermediate arrangement are BOTH included in the same piece ofsheet music. The composer writes: 'This piece was composed using as its basis the compositional technique of serialism in which a fixed series of notes are used to make the harmonic and melodic base of a piece. I looked at the twelve Munro???s on the Isle of Skye known as The Cuillin and used their height???s to get the twelve notes required in serialism. The tallest is Sg?rr Alasdair at 992 meters and Sg?rr a??? Mhadaidh is the shortest at 918 meters. I added together the number of meters to get a single number that could be related to a note in the scale. I wrote down the scale I had chosen and assigned each Cuillin a note the heights of the Cuillin gave me the order which gave me the tune Iuse. I decided not to use a conventional scale so I put on my B and F levers which gives the scale a darker colour that I feel matches the mystery of the Cuillin. Although the technique used to achieve the scale is serial the piece itself cannot be described as a serial piece and I have allowed the music to develop more freely and organically than a system would allow.'
