Everyone knows and loves this most famous of rags by Scott Joplin - the father of ragtime.

Par JOPLIN SCOTT. Scott Joplin, pianiste et compositeur de ragtime américain, est né à Texarkana (Texas) en 1868. Il apprend à jouer du piano auprès d'un musicien allemand, qui lui fait connaître la musique des grands compositeurs européens. Entre 1885 et 1893, Joplin joue dans des cabarets et des bars de St. Louis - à partir de 1894, il se produit au Maple Leaf Club à Sedalia. Il enseigne également la musique. Par la suite, il consacre tout son temps à la composition. En 1909, il déménage à New York. Joplin compose plus de 600 ragtimes, une symphonie et deux opéras (dont Treemonisha, 1911). On le surnomme 'King of Ragtime' et il est sans aucun doute l'un des maîtres de l'invention mélodique. Il meurt à New York en 1917.
