To this day Eugène Bozza (1905-1991) remains one of the most prolific composers for wind instruments despite being a violinist himself. His Three Evocations for 2 Flutes is an exquisite addition to the repertoire. During his studies at the Paris Conservatoire Bozza won prizes for Violin conducting and composition as well as the Grand Prix de Rome. He then conducted the orchestra of the Opéra-Comique and became Head of the Conservatoire in Valenciennes whilst remaining a prominent composer. Bozza's Three Evocations are exciting duets containing much musical variation andcontrast suitable for advanced flautists. As music educationalist Paul Griffiths has written of Bozza's compositions 'his works reveal melodic fluency elegance of structure and a consistently sensitive concern of instrumental capabilities.'

Flute Friction is a series of flute duets in three books aimed at flautists from grade 1 to 8. 15 Flute duets. 10 Flute Trios.In this first book in the series ten flute trios are also included which teachers will find particularly profitable when working with small groups although the main emphasis in this series is on the interaction between two players similar in standard. In many cases each part is given equal importance so it is the ease with which players can shift from pole position to a more supporting role and back again that poses the principle challenge. Elsewhere the spoils are slightly less equitably carved up and again teachers willquickly gauge for themselves which pieces best suit the abilities and personalities of their students. If teachers can get their students to learn both parts in each piece then in a sense the books immediately double in value!I like to think of these pieces as being useful from a number of viewpoints and would suggest using them in a variety of ways not exclusively as light relief at the end of lessons. Duets are an excellent way of improving sight-reading to be sure as well as building confidence and assertiveness. But at least as importantly they nurture that most underestimated of skills listening without which musical accomplishment is doomed to certain failure. If the teacher is limited in pianistic ability then duets offer a much needed chance for students to play in a small ensemble setting which is the first stage to being able to 'hold a line' in a wind band or orchestra.Above all perhaps the sheer joy of being part of a 'winning team' can hardly be overestimated; played well a duet is greater than the sum of its parts and may well have the potential to please in a concert setting. The business of matching intonation is of course especially important in duets and similarly taking breaths in suitable places is critical to the way an audience understands the overall musical texture.Balance

Aus Den 44 Duos Für Zwei Violinen. Par BARTOK BELA (ARR.FERESHTEH RAHBARI). Béla Bartók's '44 Duos” for violins are a set of marvelous musical miniatures that draw on the composer's love of Eastern European folk music. Ranging from easy to advanced standard, they have long been the province only of string players with arrangements first for cellos and more latterly for violas. Now they are available to delight flautists and will be ideal for recitals, either as a main program item or as encores, just as violinists have enjoyed them since their composition. Arranger Fereshteh Rahbari comments that it is thanks to the development of the flute over the last four decades, especially in its speaking quality, that these effective new arrangements could be made./ Répertoire / 2 Flûtes Traversières

Elle en reproduit intégralement le texte, l'ornementation, ainsi que les quelques mentions de liaisons qui pouvaient figurer sur les manuscrits consultés, sans aucune adjonction. Mais il va de soi que les problèmes de technique et de phrasé spécifiques à la flûte amèneront les utilisateurs à compléter ces textes en conséquence: adjonction d'articulations, de modes d'attaque, de respirations: suppression ou modification, le cas échéant, de certains ornements (particulièrement dans les passages les plus aigus de la première flûte, ou en fonction de doigtés délicats). De telles modifications ne pouvaient figurer dans cette transcription dans la mesure où les solutions, multiples, dépendent avant tout du - niveau technique des élèves concernés.
