Compositeur Notes: Green Leaf Prelude (Février 2004) Il s'agit d'une transcription d'un des morceaux des 'Cygnes Sauvages' notes ballet. 'Les cygnes sauvages' a été commandée par le Ballet australien chorégraphié par Meryl Tankard et créée en l'Opéra de Sydney en mai 2003. Dans cette pièce, plutôt minimaliste, le personnage principal, la princesse Elisa, regarde à travers un trou dans une feuille verte et est d'imaginer des mondes éloignés.La version originale a été écrite pour soprano et orchestre.Piece mélancolique (Janvier 2004) Cette pièce n'est pas tout à fait 'vouloir' de décider s'il s'agit d'un tango ou la valse, il se déplace entre les deux. Il a une certaine sensation mélancolique de la musique Café à l'ancienne Russie.Revolving Doors (Janvier 2004) Ecrit à l'origine pour piano solo, l'idée m'est venue à New York en 2000, où j'ai rencontré plus de portes tournantes que partout ailleurs dans le monde. Il s'agit d'une pièce très courte et modeste. Elle a été organisée pour basson et piano pour Lorelei Dowling.Slicked Retour Tango (Juin 2002) Cette pièce a été écrite à l'origine pour un documentaire sur Barrie Kosky en 1996 et a été marqué pour clarinette et quatuor à cordes (cette version est encore appelée 'Kosky Tango'). Je me sentais toujours très chaleureusement sur ??ce petit morceau et écrivit une version duo peu de celui-ci, désormais intitulé 'lissés en arrière Tango'. Ce Tango a un peu nostalgique Europe de l'Est se sentent à elle, je pense.La version pour basson et piano a été édité par Wendy Cooper. / Basson Et Piano

Gabriel Pierné (1863-1937) was a French composer conductor and organist. Despite being predominantly remembered as a conductor his Solo De Concert remains a recognised piece in the Bassoon repertoire. Pierné studied at the Paris Conservatoire before taking up the position of chief conductor for the concert series Concerts Colonne in 1910. He remained in the post until 1933 and during this time he notably conducted the world premiere of Igor Stravinsky's The Firebird. Pierné composed for a variety of instruments Concert Solo for Bassoon being one offour solo works by the composer. This Pierné piece for Bassoon contains many characteristics typical of the French style such as significant tempo changes and performance directions flourishes of semiquavers chromaticism and many alterations in dynamics. Concert Solo is a varied piece essential to the repertoire of aspiring bassoonists.

Internationally acclaimed French composer Henri Dutilleux (1916-2013) followed the music traditions of Maurice Ravel and Claude Debussy yet implemented his own distinctive style. His Sarabande et Cortege for Bassoon and Piano displays influences of Debussy's eschewing of tonality and Ravel's inventive textures. These combined with Dutilleux's unique uses of structure and pedal points create a truly riveting piece for Bassoon and Piano. Sarabande et Cortege comes at the beginning of Dutilleux's career and was composed as part of a set of fourexam pieces for the Paris Conservatoire (1942-1950). Yet the popularity of all four pieces remains and they continue to be performed to this day. Elements like lyrical melodies and furious semiquaver passages make for an exciting piece for bassoonists.

It is aimed principally at students of grades 1 to 5 and intended to combine technical challenges with that most vital musical ingredient: fun.Mr Sheen's Miscellany For Bassoon - Grade 1 contains three pieces for bassoon and piano by Graham Sheen.Polka-dots.There are three contrasting types of expression for the bassoonist here. The opening phrase is staccato which is followed (at bar 11) by a sustained counter melody. Finally (at bar 19) both these effects are combined in a second melody which needs very clear dynamicplaying.Monkey Puzzle.Sustaining the sound while re-articulating the notes is important in this piece. In other words the opening should be played almost slurred. Be aware of the changing harmonies underneath the held notes in the bassoon part.Serious Song.Long but separate notes contrast with real legato. The main theme is marked tenuto so full value for each note especially ending notes. Even the quavers aren't very short at this speed. Try to make the richest sound you can like for example a fine Russian baritone.

French composer Paul Jeanjean (1874-1928) was known primarily for his Clarinet compositions however he also composed significantly for other wind instruments. His Prelude Et Scherzo for Bassoon and Piano remains prominent in the repertoire. As a noted teacher and composer the Paris Conservatoire often called upon Jeanjean to provide music for their own use. Prelude Et Scherzo was composed to be used as a competition and audition piece at the institution. The Prelude is in 6/8 meter and lyrical contrasted bythe fast staccato Scherzo. For all advanced bassoonists Jeanjean's Prelude Et Scherzo is a challenging yet exciting addition to the repertoire.
