Premiered by: Trinity College Choir, Stephen Layton, conductor on September 20, 2015 'This is one of the two motets I chose to compose in a contemporary response to Zarlino’s Le Istitutioni Harmoniche (1558). Caritas Dei diffusa est takes a more historical approach whereas Blessed are Those Who Mourn engages a more modern interpretation. Celebrate HM The Queen's 90th Birthday with your choir Sing Judith Weir's special new choral piece I Love All Beauteous Things Master of the Queen's Music, Judith Weir, has been commissioned by St Paul's Cathedral in London to write a piece for SATB choir and organ in celebration of HM The Queen's 90th birthday in 2016. The piece is now available from Chester Music, so that choirs all over the world can join in with the festivities. Churches and other local organisations are planning events on Sunday 12th June and many may want to include this approachable setting of Robert Bridges' poem. Directed by Andrew Carwood, the St Paul's Cathedral Choir will perform I love all beauteous things as part of the National Service of Thanksgiving which will take place on at 11am on 10 June in the presence of HM The Queen and HRH The Duke of Edinburgh. At the service the Archbishop of Canterbury will give the address and the Prime Minister will read a lesson. The event will be televised live on BBC1. Judith Weir comments: 'It is a particular honour to contribute new music for this great occasion, and a pleasure to write a choral version of Robert Bridges' beautiful verse.' In We both reached for the gun, Roxie is accused of killing her violent lover and Flynn’s argument is that they both ‘reached for the gun’ at the same time – Roxie had no choice but to kill him, or she would have died. In the staging, Roxie is portrayed as Billy’s mechanical puppet, which is why the music has a certain mechanical, even clockwork quality to it. This is a patter song, full of long streams of words, so take care not to go too fast. Das neugeborne Kindelein (The newborn babe, the heavenly child) (BuxWV 13) for Mixed choir (SATB), Strings, Basso continuo Dietrich Buxtehude (1637-1707) was Organist of the St Marien church in Lubeck from 1668 until his death. He wrote many works for specific secular occasions, feasts and celebrations etc. and although his positon did not require him to compose vocal music he left over 120 vocal works in a wide range of scorings, style and length. Almost all texts are sacred and scorings vary from a single voice with instrument to nine voices with several instruments and continuo. Dietrich Buxtehude's Cantata forfour part chorus is suited remarkably well for the Christmas services as well as the general religious services which choruses take part in every year. This opulent-sounding work possesses its every own special Christmas magic. Weltliches Repertoire. Par . With his Hebrew Choral Songbook, Ohad Stolarz presents a new collection of classics of the musical repertoire in Hebrew, arranged by him for mixed choir a cappella. Many of these pieces are published in Germany for the first time; almost all of them are first published as choral arrangements. The first volume contains ten sacred and paraliturgical songs that may be sung at various occasions. Among these are the feast of Passover, the ?Ten Days of Repentance? in the month of Tishré and the Sabbath. The second volume contains ten secular songs that have become widely known in Israel during the 20th century. These songs are part of Israel?s cultural history and belong to its core repertoire. All Hebrew lyrics appear in transliteration underneath the music, translations in German and English and comprehensive annotation texts are located in the appendix. Love me sweet was composed for the occasion of the composer's wedding in July 2010. The text consists of four verses taken from Elizabeth Barrett Browning's ironic poem A Man's Requirements which ends with the couplet, 'I will love thee - half a year - As a man is able.' This setting responds to the purer sentiments of the earlier verses, employing a lilting metre, a harmonic idiom and a piquant sprinkling of dissonance. Par TOMPSETT BEN. Peter Sculthorpe's programme note reads as follows 'Lullaby is based upon one of the number of indigenous Australian melodies collected by Dr H. C. Lethbridge during the 1930s and is a lullaby for children victimised by war. It opens with several statements of indigenous melody, the words lovingly entreating children to embrace sleep, as night falls. This is followed by a short central section that questions the need for war, its text taken from another song in the Lethbridge collection. The melody then returns, leading to a quiet coda, suggesting the calmness of sleep and, for many children, the beauteousness of Paradise. ' The piece is set for unaccompanied mixedvoices. Corp Ronald (Editor). Par CORP RONALD. This volume contains six of the best choruses written for the stage. Taken from the Savoy operas they have been suitably arranged for choral groups of any size. Some of the pieces, originally composed for 'solo voice' ensembles may lend themselves to being sung by a solo voice, however, would be equally affective when sung 'tutti'. Górecki's Church Songs, based on melodies from Rev Jan Siedlecki's ?piewniki Ko?cielne ('church songbooks'), were composed in 1986. This edition is based on the PWM edition of 2013, which was produced with the assistance of Anna Górecka and Miko?aj Górecki. A special feature of the Boosey publications is the new, alternative Latin sung text by Edward Tambling, which will be attractive to the many choirs who do not wish to sing in Polish. The Latin text is carefully crafted to fit Górecki's score and is both poetic and sensitive to the devotional aspect of the songs. English translations from the Polish are also included, for reference only.The three publications present the songs for sacred use according to devotional subject-matter. In concert performances the songs, or a selection of them, may be performed in any order and combination. Vol 1 contains six songs in praise of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The seven songs in vol 2 take the themes of Good Friday, the Crucifixion, The Cross of Christ and the Resurrection. Thomas Campion's Never weather-beaten sail is a sprightly text that powerfully evokes the sailor's plea for God's calming presence upon the sea's unrelenting rushing waves. At the opening of this work for unaccompanied mixed voices, the jaunty alto/tenor movement in thirds symbolises the curling waves of the undulating sea, the mellifluous soprano melody represents the boat's sails, and the bass section's never-changing 'A' provides the anchor. All four voices then come together in homophony, urging God to 'come quickly...and take my soul to rest?. Rather than a simple repetition of thematic material in the manner of a standard hymn, the texture alters through the rest of the work until the very end where all voices gradually fade away into the distance, leaving what seems like a lone voice in the wilderness to cry 'to Thee?. Contrasting to other well-known setting of this text, this new work provides a fresh interpretation, suitable for intermediate choirs. / Choeur Mixte (SATB) A Cappella
