The holy night of Christmas is celebrated in many cultures throughout the world. Robert W. Smith gives us a new arrangement of the classic carol O Holy Night in a Celtic style. Following a beautiful introductory statement, the Irish musical roots come to the fore through percussion and flutes as they create an Irish jig. The clarinets present the melody in the beautiful chalumeau register juxtaposed against the jig. The arrangement builds throughout leading to a very exciting conclusion that is decidedly an Irish celebration. Very highly recommended!

The original melody (known as Nicaea) was composed by John Bacchus Dykes’ especially for Reginald Heber’s renowned hymn of praise and became universally popular when it was included in Hymns Ancient and Modern in 1861. A beautiful solo that will test the soloists ability to show true emotion.

Opening with the rich sounds of the woodwind choir, here is a magnificent setting of John B. Dykes' familiar hymn tune, Holy, Holy, Holy. Rich brass writing sets up the fanfare and key change to a dramatic tutti finale. (2:45).
