French composer, Henri Büsser entered the Paris Conservatoire in 1889. He won the 1893 Prix de Rome and led a highly successful career as a composer, conductor, teacher and organist. His compositions for a variety of instruments are exceptional, Piece In D for French Horn and Piano being no exception. As reflected in Piece In D, Büsser's compositional style was sophisticated, yet true to the 19th century French tradition. Elements of the work include include, chromaticism, use of a wide tessitura, complex rhythms, scalic passages and wide intervals. KV 447-The Bärenreiter piano reduction of Mozart's Horn Concerto No.3 In E Flat K.447 (BA5312a) has an idiomatic and uncluttered keyboard part. The reduction is conceived for performances with keyboard as well as for rehearsal purposes for renditions with orchestra.Franz Giegling?s editorial work on the concertos in the New Mozart Edition is the definitive scholarly-critical publication and is based naturally on every known source.The publication reflect the needs of performers today. It contains clearly laid out solo horn parts in E-flat and F a detailed historical preface commenting on the sources and a special brochure containing cadenzasand ? Eingänge ?. The cadenza and ? Eingänge ? brochure offers for the first time in print the important cadenzas by Dennis Brain Timothy Brown and Dominic Nunns. The cadenzas are presented in E-flat and then in a slightly altered version for the natural horn. All of the material has also been transposed and presented for the valve horn.

Belgian composer Marcel Poot (1901-1988) was a professional composer professor and musician. He studied at the Belgian Conservatory and went on to attain success as an Organist and composer. His substantial compositions for wind and brass are still performed to this day  Légende for Horn in F and Piano being no exception. In 1925 Poot and several of his contemporaries founded 'The Synthetists' a group to rival 'Les Six' in France. They wished to inject dynamism into the conservative Belgian music scene through the composition of modern pieces. Légende for Horn andPiano reflects this whilst maintaining recognisable musical elements. Poot's Légende published in 1958 is in Ternary Form ending with a fat allegro coda. For intermediate to advanced Horn players Poot's Légende is an exciting addition to the repertoire.

For Horn And Orchestra-The horn is surely the most ?romantic? of instruments and it is a well-known fact that it plays a prominent role in Weber?s oeuvre. Der Freischütz and Oberon would be unthinkable without their horn calls whether to signifyyearning or the clarion call of the hunt. But Weber did more than give the instrument important solo parts in his operas; he also wrote a virtuoso concert piece that to this day is regarded as one of the most difficult in thewhole horn repertoire not least because the soloist has to play three-part chords (!) in the cadenza. This Henle Urtext edition is based on the autograph the engraver?s copy (checked by Weber himself) and the first edition andso offers the best possible musical text for those wishing to learn this highly effective virtuoso piece. The Preface also for the first time provides biographical details of Sebastian Rauch the Munich horn player whocommissioned this Concertino.

This work was commissioned by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. It was first performed on 2nd May 2000 at the Barbican Centre London by Richard Watkins. Oddly Mozart wrote out the score of his most famous Horn Concerto not only in black ink but also in red green and blue. Whether he meant this as a genial prank or had higher aspirations in mind willremain an eternal mystery. Whatever the case Henle‘s Piano reduction takes Mozart at his word and prints the enclosed urtext Horn part in exactly the same colours as are found in the autograph score. Perhaps themulti-coloured publication will inspire Horn players to create new interpretations of this popular concerto.
