Chandons Te Deum HWV 281. Par HAENDEL GEORG FRIEDRICH. Handel composed the 'Te Deum? in B-flat major HWV 281 in 1718 for the future Duke of Chandos, hence its nickname 'Chandos Te Deum?. Here it is called 'Te Deum for Cannons? after the Duke's stately home named Cannons where the first performance took place. The unusual scoring for flute, oboe, bassoon, trumpet, two violins and basso continuo plus a choir (one soprano, three tenors and a bass) probably reflects the musicians which were available at Cannons, bearing in mind that three tenors were used also in 'Acis and Galatea?, the masque which was composed at almost the same time. Though in many respects this 'Te Deum? is reminiscent of the 'Utrecht Te Deum?, its smaller forces tend to give it more the character of chamber music. This edition is based on the Urtext from the 'Halle Handel Edition? (BA 10708), which offers the first complete scholarly text of the music for the 'Te Deum?./ Répertoire / SSATB et Orchestre

Among the 26 motets written “in the Italian madrigal manner” 23 are settings of Old Testament texts, a fact to which the collection owes its title. Cet arrangement explore les Caraïbes sty -e, connu sous le nom and ldquo-Afro - Cuban and rdquo-: des lignes mélodiques indépendants avec des impulsions rythmiques solides sont superposées à accumuler les textures qui sont riches et translucide. J?ai composé cette messe dans les premières années de ma présence à Notre-Dame, avant la création de l?association Musique sacrée à Notre-Dame de Paris et la restructuration de la maîtrise sous sa forme actuelle. La maîtrise existait déjà, bien sûr ; on enseigne en effet le chant en ce lieu depuis le Moyen-Âge, à l?époque où la cathédrale était encore en construction, il y a plus de 850 ans. À la fin des années 1980, la maîtrise était bien différente de ce qu?elle est devenue maintenant. Elle était alors dirigée par le chanoine Jehan Revert, maître de chapelle, qui fut pour moi un véritable guide, et dont la mémoire restera toujours dans le c?ur des musiciens de Notre-Dame. C?est donc à cette époque que j?ai composé cette messe qui fut à la fois ma première composition et ma première ?uvre liturgique. Elle est volontairement très courte, d?où son titre, pour répondre du mieux possible aux contraintes liturgiques. Elle est aussi le reflet de mon profond attachement à ce lieu unique et tellement inspirant pour le jeune musicien que j?étais alors.
