Pièce Concertante Op.27 for Trombone and Piano is a piece by Carlos Salzédo written for the Paris Conservatoire contest. Great to demonstrate all the skills acquired by the player this piece is difficult (7°) and requires an advanced level to be played perfectly. Quite slow during the first section the second part of the piece features some faster sections that are more syncopated. It requires a good mastering of breathing due to long phrases and liaisons Carlos Salzédo (1885-1961) was one of the greatest French harpists and a pianists composers and conductors. He wrote numerous pieces forHarp some theory books and methods and some pieces for other instruments such as Piano Cello Trombone Flute or Voice.

Trombone Et Piano - Collection Crescendo-Both Marcel Galiègue and Jérôme Naulais studied the Trombone at the Paris Conservatoire. Both musicians have performed in a large number of concerts and recordings and have taken part in many international Master Classes. Their collaboration for Plein Vent therefore makes for a well-informed compilation. As suggested by the title  Plein Vent focuses on breath control. With a typical performance lasting around three minutes and ten seconds this Trombone work is a delightful alternative piece for young trombonists. Plein Vent is a delightfuladdition to the intermediate Trombone repertoire.

Bozza (1905-1991) was a brilliant student at the Paris Conservatoire winning prizes for the Violin conducting and composing as well as the Grand Prix de Rome. He predominantly composed chamber music for wind but his solo works for the instruments are also held in high esteem such as his Ballade for Trombone and Piano. This Bozza piece was originally composed for conservatoire students displaying the technical skills as well as musicality of the soloist. There is no formal structure to Ballade however the many changes in tempo provide variety throughout. With no distinct musical theme unifying the music it is interesting to note that much of the material of Bozza's Ballade is extracted from orchestral excerpts. Ballade is an ideal performance piece for advanced trombonists.

Les bonnes raisons ne manquaient pas pour m'encourager à composer un concerto pour trombone basse et Orchestre d'Harmonie. Cette composition concrétise, en premier lieu, l'amitié fraternelle qui me lie au tromboniste basse Ben van Dijk depuis trente-cinq ans, et coïncide avec mes trente ans de carrière de musicien professionnel (1er mai 2007). D'autre part, j'ai souhaité apporter ma contribution au répertoire solo pour trombone basse, bien pauvre en oeuvres lyriques qui exploitent pleinement les capacités mélodiques et musicales de l'instrument. Enfin, ce concerto est un hommage à Piet van Dijk (1920-2003), le père de Ben, qui fut un musicien dans l'âme et un être extraordinaire. En tant que professeur de trombone et d'euphonium, il a joué un rôle essentiel dans ma carrière future de musicien et je lui en serai toujours reconnaissant. Un festival ambitieux autour du trombone offrait le cadre idéal pour la création de mon oeuvre : le festival Slide Factory 2007 organisé à Rotterdam par les membres du New Trombone Collective, ambassadeurs idéaux pour la littérature contemporaine pour le trombone. La création de Canticles (Cantiques) fut une expérience enthousiasmante, enrichie par l'étroite collaboration avec Ben van Dijk. D'ailleurs, je tiens à le remercier chaleureusement pour ses excellentes suggestions, son savoir-faire et sa passion. Je suis convaincu que cette pièce trouvera sa place dans les salles de concert ! French pianist arranger composer and conductor Jean Michel Defaye (b. 1932) entered the Paris Conservatoire at the mere age of ten years old. His successful compositions and arrangements were mainly for brass  Mouvement composed in 1972 for Trombone and Piano being no exception. Dutilleux's Chorale Cadenza and Fugue for Trombone and Piano has never found its way into the mainstream of Trombone repertoire yet it remains a frequent favourite at virtuoso solo competitions. Henri Dutilleux (1916-2013) began his career as director of the Musical Illustrations Service on French Radio and Television but he left this position after 18 years to devote himself entirely to composition. As the title suggests Dutilleux's Chorale Cadenza and Fugue is divided in tothree contrasting sections which run seamlessly from one to another. The piece begins with the Trombone playing a lyrical chorale melody accompanied by rich Piano chords. The cadenza is dramatic with the intense Trombone line being played over tremolos from the Piano. This is followed by the angular and rhythmic Fugue initially stated in the low register of the Piano. As the Trombone states the Fugue a countermelody is introduced on the Piano. These themes continue and augment into a virtuosic fanfare motif closing in a grand and dramatic finish. Dutilleux's Chorale Cadenza and Fugue for Trombone and Piano is inspiring challenging motivating and essential to the repertoire of all advanced trombonists.

Composed in 1956 by Henri Tomasi (1901-1971) French composer conductor and winner of the Grand Prix de Rome in 1927 this Concerto for Trombone and Orchestra has a strong French signature and lasts 16 minutes. The first movement starts with the Trombone and ends with a waltz theme the second movement is built on an ostinato that makes the Trombone sound more lyrical. The third movement is based on the two first ones with South American rhythms and ends with a virtuosic part played by the Trombone.
