Carnival of Vienna op. 26-Faschingsschwank Aus Wien (Carnival Of Venice) Op.26 is an exciting yet rather unusual Piano work in five movements composed by Robert Schumann in 1839. Although the structure of this piece is more integrated than a Suite it is not quite a Sonata for Piano. Nocturnes-Time and again Chopin succeeded in giving different Piano music genres their own individual characters whether etudes preludes waltzes scherzi or Nocturnes. The Irishman John Field had alreadycomposed over 20 nocturnes which presumably greatly influenced Chopin. Elles comptent sans doute parmi les pièces les plus gratifiantes de la littérature pour piano du 19e siècle. Ce recueil contient toutes les «Romances sans paroles»parues du vivant de Mendelssohn ainsi qu?à titre posthume.

La sonate en si bémol mineur op. 35 fut rendue célèbre en particulier par la marche funèbre la plus connue de l?histoire de la musique le dernier mouvement rapide à l?unisson et l?atmosphère mystérieuse déconcertante qui en émane continuent aujourd?hui encore de plonger l?auditeur dans un état de stupeur. La sonate tardive en si mineur n?a rien à envier à l?immense niveau musical de l?opus 35. Malgré son caractère dramatique elle offre régulièrement des moments de sérénitégrâce à des cantilènes éthérées notamment dans le mouvement lent teinté d?immatérialité. Ces deux sonates comptent parmi les ?uvres de prédilection de tous les pianistes virtuoses.
