Symphony in Eb major Hob. I:103 (Drumroll)-The twelve London Symphonies??? comprise the sublime final statement of Haydn???s symphonic ??uvre. They were written for the London impresario Johann Peter Salomon and Haydn himself conducted their premieres during his lengthy stays in the English metropolis in 1791/92 and 1794/95. The E-flat-major Symphony no. 103 was composed in 1795 as the penultimate of the London Symphonies. It owes its epithet to its unique beginning: a solo drumroll in the timpani ushers in the slow introduction. This opening bar marked with Haydn???s heading Intrada??? and a pause even inspires many a performer to venture a short timpani improvisation. This study edition adopts the musical text of the HaydnComplete Edition thereby guaranteeing the highest scholarly quality. Commissioned by the American Guild of Organists for their 2012 convention here is the first major work from the pen of Rosephanye Powell. With text from the Book of Jeremiah the four movements follow the prophet's feelings of abandonment and redemption by God. Powell combines this ancient text with music that draws simultaneously from the African American musical heritage as well as the classical music traditions.

Miniature Score.This work was commissioned by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. It was first performed on 13th May 1998 London. This piece is based on a genuine old tune 'Maxwell's Strathspey' which the composer found inan 1824 collection of Scottish melodies and which unfolds at the start of the piece on solo cello. Variations and a bold up-tempo to the quick dance we know as a reel ultimately yield to the magic that has been promised right atthe start: the northern lights take over at the end of the piece. Its inspiration comes from a walk to a community event in Hoy Hall during which Davies saw the lights in the sky pulsing in and out of time with the sounds comingfrom the hall. Duration 12 minutes. Howells wrote Penguinski for a visit made to the Royal College of Music in London on 10 May 1933. This score pays light and affectionate tribute to the considerable popularity of Stravinksy in London from the teens of the twentieth century. In Penguinski Howells creates a knockabout piece which shadowboxes Petrushka. Whilst underlining Howells's versatility the score gives a colourful insight into the prevailing influences of the time and is an intriguing example of how Stravinsky must have sounded to his English contemporaries.

Don Juan stands out among Richard Strauss' early tone poems for its almost faultless structure and concise design. This elaborate and considered work helped to establish him as one of the Great German composers when he conducted the premiere of the work himself in November 11 1889. At twenty-four he had written the first masterpiece for which he will be remembered. Taking Nikolaus Lenau’s play as his starting point Strauss fashioned a Symphonic poem which would convey the story of the legendary womanizer. It is a perfect characterisation with exceedingly vivid orchestration use of short motives and intense lyricism. Eulenberg's celebratedand highly authoritative miniature score is the definitive reference source for study performance preparation or simply for those with a love of the great orchestral works.

But I love the way those countries sound in Hollywood movies and inpop culture generally: When Clint Eastwood rides south of the border when Disney’s Alladin or Mulan takes me far east when arabic pop music roars past me out of the open windows of a car... and bull fighter music and the sound of acrobatic beat-em-up’s in John Woo’s Hong Kong karate movies – and so on: powerful images splashed all over my eye balls and ear drums. My recollections of this ethnic-pop-film-music has turned itself into a symphony. And I don’t even have to just remember what I have heard: A few internet clicks gives me access to incredible sound libraries containing live-and-kicking ethnic music from my three favorite countries just waiting to be put together in new combinations and energize my personal imagery.  The symphony is like a huge slide show – musical snapshots from my travels in the western pop culture versions of three exotic locations: Mexico Arabia and China – original and popular melodies welded together by my personal musical language and associations. I use all the effects of modern pling-plong-music plus a few of my own inventions to create a spectacular contemporary orchestral sound sporting a bee hive of melodies from either East or West played simultaneously in different keys and differents tempos at once while kept firmly in place by
