These iconic tunes have been performed recorded mined for television and film scores and advertisements so much that many Americans recognize them without knowing their author. BeautifulDreamer one of Foster’s many sentimental ballads was published after his death. In this arrangement the song’s sentimentality has been honoured without exaggeration.

The ?Stabat mater? composed shortly before Pergolesi?s untimely death at the early age of 26 quickly attracted attention. The work?s importance was soon so great that none other than Johann Sebastian Bach performed a German version of the work based on the 51st Psalm. Numerous copies prints and arrangements attest to the work?s vast popularity a popularity that still exists today.For the present edition the autograph was for the first time compared to a very early Neapolitan score that is presumably based on the parts from the work?s premiere. Plaisir d’Amour is frequently performed and recorded by artists as diverse as Charlotte Church Paul Robeson and Joan Baez. Written in 6/8 time the melody with ornamentations flows gently over the arpeggiated accompaniment. When Elvis Presley sang ‘I can’t help falling in love with you ’ he was probably unaware that the melody was based on a French love song written in 1784. J.P.E. Martini was a German composer who became a court musician for MarieAntoinette. Managing to adapt to conditions after the Revolution Martini continued to compose produce and teach music into the early 1800’s.

This classic melody by the early 20th century British composer never grows old. Young people will love to rehearse this melody. Older elementary singers will enjoy adding a second part and young women have a beautiful descant to discover.
