Born in Toulouse Marcel Bitsch (1921-2011) went on to study at the Paris Conservatoire before becoming a professor of counterpoint at the institution. As an exceptionally versatile composer Bitsch has composed orchestral works chamber works and numerous pieces and studies for wind instruments. Dans ce recueil, les chansons yiddish alternent avec des pièces klezmer harmonisées ou écrites spécialement pour le trio d'anches (hautbois, clarinette et basson), ce qui constitue une démarche entièrement nouvelle dans ce répertoire. L'enjeu est ici de montrer que l'extraordinaire énergie de la musique klezmer et l'accompagnement musical de la langue yiddish, porteuse de tant d'émotions, peuvent être servis par une formation ' non habituelle' pour peu que les musiciens puissent infléchir leur jeu. L'écriture même est évolutive, laissant la place à une libre ornementation ou à l'improvisation, afin de mieux traduire la spontanéité, l'humour ou l'infinie tristesse de ces témoignages musicaux.
