It was originally a solo for me on piano and then it was performed on television by a flautist accompanied by me and now it is where it should be with your clarinet quartet. The movements are all joyful and will hopefully reflect your 'Joie de Vivre' '.

Melodic charm bel canto sensibility impressionist harmony à la Française and jazz rhythm influences unite in this quartet for three B-flat Clarinets and Bass Clarinet. Yellow Green was premiered on July 23rd 2013 at the Teatro Municipal de Niterói (Rio de Janeiro) by the musicians of the Omega Quartet: Maurício Silva Deusiel da Cunha de Souza Diego Abreu and Mateus Falkemback (bass clarinet).    Approximately 9 minutes in length the title – Yellow Green – is a tribute to the two colours of the Brazilian flag. The introduction gives way to a vast Fugue (marked Vivace)dipped in the colours of swing. The central Adagio floats a dreamy timeless melody. The brief finale brings together the fugue’s thematic material with one last recommendation for the performers: “Feel jazz”. This invigorating work was recorded for the Chant de Linos label by its dedicatees the Omega Quartet clarinetists.

Par CURTIS MIKE. American composer and woodwind performer Mike Curtis is equally comfortable in classical, jazz, and ethnic settings. He has toured the world as a klezmer clarinetist, played bassoon with symphonies and opera companies, and recorded on sax with jazz greats Charlie Rouse and Anthony Braxton. His compositions show the influence of those experiences and more.
