This piece describes the life of a river from inception to maturity. It begins with tenuous drops from melting ice, slowly forming into a brook that playfully dances around rocks and over bumps until it becomes a majestic and peaceful flow. The idyll is shattered by a raging waterfall, the erratic motion and anarchy and terror are gradually replaced by the exhilaration and then peace of motion and arrival. For Sophie Dufeutrelle, Professor of Flute at the Ecole Nationale de Musique de Villeurbanne, an intense pedagogical activity goes hand in hand with composition, an area in which she has received several commissions from esteemed soloists such as Maxence Larrieu and Philippe Bernold. Written in 2002 for a Flute Orchestra of around 20 instruments (from the Piccolo to the Octobass), Marine belongs to a tradition cherished by painters since the 16th century: the maritime landscape. The 1st movement (Mist) opens onto a lengthy section largely dedicated to improvisation in the spirit of Walter Thompson?s soundpainting: using finger movements, the conductor signs to the musicians the type of motif (calm sea, swell, whistling buoys, seagulls and fishing boats) that will insert itself ad libitum between two lines of waves. The 2nd movement, more traditional, floats a Song of heartbreaking melancholy followed by a light, lively Dance that swirls the heart into joyful eddies. Written for intermediate-level flautists (with one part reserved for beginners), this piece, with its variety of atmospheres, concludes on a high note ? in the joy of making music together!

Twelve arias from the Bach cantatas selected and edited as flute duets. These bass arias as written by Bach consist only of the vocal line (1st Flute) and basso continuo (2nd Flute). The bass figures have been omitted, but each aria-duet is presented in its entirety. Excellent material for teacher-pupil duets.

Par VIA KELLY. This Meditation on 'Abide With Me' by Kelly Via was written for the West Michigan Flute Orchestra, under the direction of Julie Sooy. Although originally conceived just prior to the pandemic in early 2020, the melody and words became even more important as our daily lives began to change with the spread of the virus around the world. As the son of a minister, traditional hymns were a big part of the composer's life. Mozart composed Cosi Fan Tutte in 1789, an opera buffa in two acts, premiered at the Burgtheater in Vienna, Austria, on January 26, 1790. Par COLERIDGE-TAYLOR SAMUEL. Danse Nègre, from the African Suite by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, arranged for flute choir by Paige Dashner Long. Coleridge spent his childhood in Croydon, Surrey, England, where he studied violin with his grandfather and also sang in the church choir. At 15, he was accepted to the Royal College of Music, where during his second year, he changed his major from violin to composition. At the age of 20, he met the African-American poet Paul Laurence Dunbar, who encouraged him to focus on his African heritage. Par JOPLIN SCOTT. The Ragtime Dance by Scott Joplin originated as a short ragtime folk ballet, accompanied by narration and choreography. It was first performed in 1899, but because of hesitation concerning the marketability of such a work, it was not published until 1902. As was feared, it was a commercial failure, however this led to a later 1906 publication in a solo piano arrangement.
