The jazz world mourns the loss of British pianist and composer George Shearing who passed away in 2011. Here is his most famous composition in a carefully crafted arrangement for young bands. Every section gets to play the melodyat some point and there are solo options for any trumpet and sax.

Composed by George Harrison and recorded by the Beatles on Abbey Road this has become one of the most enduring ballads of the rock era. With a beautifully constructed melody and rich harmonic structure John Wasson has created amarvelous setting for young jazz ensembles.

Recently recorded by Diana Krall on her popular CD Love Scenes George Stone has taken a similar approach and created this sensual and engaging version for jazz ensemble. The slow and soft swing style makes this one a great change of pace for contest or festivals.
