Twelve Fantasias for treble Recorder solo based on the fantasias for flauto traverso solo TWV 40:2-13. This arrangement of Telemann’s “Twelve Fantasias” for treble Recorder is based on our edition for solo flute BA2971. With the exception of Nos 4 5 & 12 which were transposed up a fourth for the Recorder all other fantasias are transposed up a third following a technique often used in the 18th Century. The Fantasias for Flute without bass address themselves less to the virtuoso than to the amateur flutist who will find everything he wishes in these pieces. Although Telemann himself mayhave lost track of his works the many flutists who have perfected their technique and musical interpretation with the help of these lovely Fantasias will never forget them.

Six Suites - Vol. 1 for Alto Recorder is the first volume of a series of two by J. S. Bach. Initially composed for Cello between 1717 and 1723 it was transcribed by Jean-Claude Veilhan and features the Suites I II and III. The transcription keeps the original key and only some passages have to be played one octave higher than in the original sheet. The first suite BWV 1007 is in G major and contains a Prelude an Allemande a Courante a Sarabande two Minuets and a Guigue. Its Prelude is the most famous movement of the whole set of Suites consisting mainly of only arpeggiated chords. It can be heard in manyfilms and is highly recognisable. The second one BWV1008 is in D minor and held the same movements' organisation. Its prelude in two parts features a cadenza which leads to other cadenzas in the Allemande. The Minuet part is quite technical to play. Finally the third one BWV 1009 in C major sees the Minuets being replaced by Bourrées which are often played together as a solo material. The second Bourrée only has a partial signature and the Allemande has a rhythm quite unique for the piece as it includes three semiquavers instead of one. These suites also exist arranged for Piano for Trombone and for many other instruments.

Markus Zahnhausen’s Lux Aeterna belongs to a very special category in my repertoire. The tender and dangerous beauty of his music has fascinated me for years. In a contemporary musical language Zahnhausen has managed to bring theinstrument back to what it once was: flauto - the flute! His expressive music never takes the instrument beyond its limits thus avoiding the trap of many a modern work. There is a perfect balance between form content andidiomatic writing that places both his music and the recorder where they belong: in the hearts of the listeners! This technical volume is addressed to advanced treble recorder players looking for repertoire that is suited for consistent work on the foundations of their instrumental and musical abilities. In accordance with the original literature for the treble recorder the exercises are mainly tailored to this instrument. Some technical chapters can be practised on both the treble and descant recorder (with transposed fingering). The term 'technical' must not be misunderstood here: ultimately the exercises aim at artistic expression emotion and tonal interpretation.

Il est donc recommandé de jouer selon ses nécessités et non dans l?ordre, l?intégralité des exercices. La 3e partie représente un travail fondé sur une pratique journalière et sur le long terme, en vue d?acquérir et maîtriser les différentes articulations - simple, double et triple coup de langue - et la coordination langue/doigts : des exercices et études précèdent des gammes et des diminutions. Il est recommandé de les aborder selon l?ordre indiqué. La régularité et la persévérance dans ce travail représentent une part importante de l?évolution technique. Dans la 4e partie sont réunis des tableaux de doigtés chromatiques/quarts de ton, et les correspondances rythmiques entre battues à la blanche et à la noire, les flûtistes à bec étant souvent amenés à jouer de la musique dont la battue est à la blanche. Fruit de plus d?une trentaine d?années d?enseignement, ma démarche est d?aider les flûtistes à utiliser au mieux leur faculté de concentration et leur ressenti corporel, en lien étroit avec leur écoute et leur visualisation.
