In the earlier part of Elgar's career as a composer he wrote several short pieces which became very popular. Chanson de Nuit and Chanson de Matin both carried his name far and wide before he composed his larger orchestral works. These two pieces which together complete Op.15 were published in several versions at once: for string orchestra for small orchestra for violin and piano and so on - so it is almost impossible to say with any degree of certainty which was the original version. However Elgar himself was a good violinist and so it may well be that he would have played this tune through to himself on the violin before adding a piano part andsending it off to his publishers for their consideration. Among the best of Jean Sibelius’ oeuvre are his 1917 compositions the Humoresques. This fabulous and charming concerto was divided into two groups for publication Opus 87 and Opus 89 and demonstrates his sublime skill with the Violin. He used a considerably smaller Orchestra accompaniment to the Violin in the second group but maintained the subtlety of depth and texture. Though there are traditional elements to all parts of this opus Humoresque No. 4 harks back to the past the most reminiscent of the delicacy of mid-nineteenth century musical miniatures. Virtuosic and challenging the soloist has the opportunity to indulge in a more traditionallyexhibitionistic display. This work features a seperate Violin part with a Piano reduction of the String Orchestra by Karl Ekman.

Viulusonaatti. Par KILPINEN YRJO. Yrjö Kilpinen (1892-1959) is most known for his hundreds of lieds and song cycles. His instrumental compositions have been less know, ie. the six piano sonatas and suite for gamba and piano. Large-scale Sonata for violin and piano is dated in 1935 with opus number 87. The work was never finished, and National Library in Helsinki holds several sketches and versions in its Kilpinen collection. In 2015 violinist Frida Backman commissioned a completion of the Sonata from composer Walter Wolff. Wolff worked on the sketches and versions until 2018, when the work was completed and the Sonata premiered. The present publication is the first publication of the Sonata. This complete edition of the Mozart sonatas for violin and keyboard has been researched and prepared by Cliff Eisen one of the most distinguished Mozart scholars of our time. Professor Eisen recognizes that many of the apparent inconsistencies and idiosynchrasies of Mozart's notation are perfectly deliberate and that the attempts in many other editions to impose uniformity upon similar phrases or musical paragraphs can bemisguided.
