Par SAMUEL RHIAN. Music for SATB chorus occupies an important place in Rhian Samuel 's catalogue of works, from the early carols written in the USA, 'Jolly Wat the Shepherd' of 1970 and 'So Long Ago' (1st Prize, Greenwich Festival, 1979) to her most recent anthems for the Choir of New College Oxford. In her songs, vocal chamber music and choral compositions she has explored an impressive range of poetry, from anonymous 14th-century Welsh texts and traditional Japanese verse to Emily Dickinson, Samuel Beckett and contemporary poets including Anne Stevenson. Samuel 's three 'Jacobean Lyrics' of 1979 included a simple canonic account of George Herbert's 'I got me flowers'. Thisnew a cappella setting returns to the poet's sublime devotional verse, reflecting the dialogue structure of ' Love Bade Me Welcome ' through expressive contrasts of material and vocal ensemble./ Feuillet / SATB a Cappella

Par BENJAMIN GEORGE. A beguiling 20-minute work for countertenor, women's voices and orchestra, Dream of the Song, George Benjamin's first work since his ground-breaking opera Written on Skin, was premiered in 2015 by the countertenor Bejun Mehta, the Netherlands Chamber Choir and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra conducted by the composer. Employing a reduced orchestra (two oboes, four horns, two percussionists and two harps and strings), the work sets verse by three major poets who spent formative years in Granada- two Hebrew poets of mid-11th century, Samuel HaNagid and Solomon Ibn Gabirol (sung by solo countertenor in English versions by Peter Cole), and Gabriel Garcia Lorca (sung by the female chorus in the original Spanish). This inspired pairing of texts creates a rich, melancholy and strange poetic conjunction, expressed most beautifully in the final movement which, overlaying soloist and choir, offers two simultaneous visions of dawn, conceived a millennium apart./ Répertoire / Choeur

The Library Of Romantic Music is a comprehensive collection of the greatest works of the Romantic period. Featuring composers like Frédéric Chopin, Claude Debussy and Gabriel Fauré, the works represented here truly some of the most beautiful ever composed. Now they're all in one conveniently spiral-bound volume, arranged for solo Piano for your sheer playing pleasure.Like the Baroque and Classical periods before it, Romantic music existed within a broader artistic, intellectual and literary movement. Emerging in the early 19th century it reflected a time of preoccupation with things mystical, spiritual, legendary and supernatural. This collection comprises fantastic original Piano works and beautiful arrangements from all the greatest composers of this era, including: Albéniz, Berlioz, Bizet, Brahms, Chopin, Dvorák, Debussy, Elgar, Fauré, Grieg, Mahler, Liszt, Mendelssohn, Puccini, Ravel and so many more.Spanning the 19th century, the Romantic movement was a reaction to what had come before. Music proved to be a particularly rich medium of expression for a new Zeitgeist that prized individualism and spirituality. Drawing together composers whose background was as diverse as the music they created, the period proved to be a very broad church indeed. This makes The Library Of Romantic Music particularly exciting, because the extraordinarily rich and expressive music is collected here in a single volume that is durable, convenient and is sure to be a mainstay of your music stand. For a simply stunning compendium of some incredible pieces of music composed by the masters, The Library Of Romantic Music is essential. The greatest compositions from such a fantastically rich period have been collected in this single volume, perfect for pianists looking for beautiful additions to their repertoire. / Piano

The catalyst for the piano cycle ?Pictures at an Exhibition?, composed in 1874, was a memorial exhibition held that year for the artist and architect Viktor Hartmann. He was a friend of Mussorgsky who had died in 1873.
It is not only Mussorgsky?s most important contribution to the piano repertoire, but through its relationship to Hartmann?s pictures and the translation of this idea into a composition, the cycle holds a unique place in 19th century piano repertoire.

Bohuslav Martinu wrote his First Violin Concerto in Paris in 1932-33, this work having been commissioned by the violin virtuoso Samuel Dushkin. However, it was never performed during the composer's lifetime and was even considered lost after his death. It was not until 1961 that musicologist and collector Hans Moldenhauer bought it from Boaz Piller, contrabassoonist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Moldenhauer approached Czech violinist Josef Suk, who gave the world premiere of the work with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra under Georg Solti in October 1973.This piano reduction is based on the musical text of the first edition. The solo part has been revised by a leading Czech violinist and performer of Martinu's music. - Major violin concerto of the 20th century - New Foreword by Martinu scholar Sandra Bergmannová (Cz/Eng/Ger) / Violon Et Piano
