Written in 1899 for the Cambridge Degree of Doctor of Music and prepared by Alan Tongue from the composer's manuscript A Cambridge Mass is the largest work written by Ralph Vaughan Williams before A Sea Symphony of 1909 and amongst his most ambitious. The opening Credo is set for SATB soloists double chorus and orchestra on the broadest and most dramatic scale. The Offertorium that follows is for orchestra only in lyrical sonata form. These two contrasting movements are balanced by a third part: a solemn Sanctus for double Chorus Brass Timpani and Organ and a choral-orchestral Hosanna which returns da capoafter a serene Benedictus for soloists wind and strings to crown the work with a jubilant fugal conclusion.

The Souls Of The Righteous is an anthem for SATB choir with an Organ reduction...(+)
The Souls Of The Righteous is an anthem for SATB choir with an Organ reduction provided for rehearsal purposes. It takes its text from the Old Testament book of Wisdom. Sir George Elvey (1816-1893) was a British organist and composer. He was a chorister at Canterbury Cathedral and New College Oxford before studying at the Royal Academy of Music. Such was his skill he became Organist at St George’s Chapel Windsor at the age of just nineteen having been offered the post in preference to far more experienced candidates such as Samuel Wesley. He wrote prolifically for the Chapel creating many works that were only performed once andhave now been lost. Best remembered are his hymn tunes oratorios and anthems.

Thanks to its transparent texture and its many beautiful melodies which seem to be token the composer?s highly personal relation to death the Requiem is perhaps Fauré?s most popular work. The musical structure of this frequently heard piece makes it virtually ideal for performance with organ accompaniment. This arrangement takes into account all three of the composer?s surviving versions: the early version with string orchestra as well as the two later versions with added winds and with symphony orchestra.Standard work from concert repertoireEasy-to-play organ arrangementImpressive timbral adaptation for organThe Bärenreiter Choir &Organ Series presents great choral works in arrangements for soloists choir and organ; no orchestra is needed. The original orchestral parts have been transcribed into easy-to-play organ reductions whereby the contemporary tradition of such arrangements has been taken into consideration. In some cases the original organ versions by the composer were used. The organ parts are presented on three staves. The choir and solo parts always remain true to the original. You need only one edition for soloists singers and organist alike.

Standard choral work with a manageable reduced orchestration.A stylistically appropriate as well as tried and tested arrangement.Compatible with Vocal score H 2924-90.Dvo ák?s Requiem for soloists choir and orchestra is one of the highlights within the international choral repertoire. Now Bärenreiter is presenting this work in an arrangement by Joachim Linckelmann with chamber Orchestra based on the full score from the Complete Edition of the Works by Anton n Dvo ák.The arrangement dispenses with all the brass instruments except for a single Horn; all that remains of the Percussion arethe Timpani; the Organ has also been taken out. The cor anglais and Bass Clarinet parts can be replaced by an Oboe and Clarinet (ossia staves in score and parts). This arrangement which judiciously reduces the richness of Dvo ák?s original orchestration makes the work available to a broader range of performers outside professional circles.

Franz Schubert’s popular German Mass of 1827 follows in the footsteps of Michael Haydn’s work Deutsches Hochamt by turning to a German translation of the Ordinary mass. Its homophonic texture and largely syllabic setting of the words make it more accessible to lay choruses than Schubert’s masses in Latin an advantage reinforced by its diatonic melodic writing and constantly slow tempos. The present edition reproduces the Urtext from the New Schubert Edition and presents the definitive second version for chorus and wind instruments. Since the piano reduction basically follows the choral lines and Schubert’s original organ part however the Mass can also be performedwith organ accompaniment.Urtext from the New Schubert EditionStandard work in the church music repertoireCan be accompanied by organ or wind instrumentsNo vocal soloists necessary

Missa solemnis-Mozart composed the Mass in C K.337 about one year after the Coronation Mass K. 317; 'nel Marzo 1780 in Salisburgo' he wrote on the first page of his original score. And just as was the case with K.317 this work together with a new church sonata (K. 336/336) will have been intended for the Easter High Mass in Salzburg Cathedral. The formal instrumentation of the score with oboes solo bassoon trumpets and timpani (but without horns) only serves to strengthen such a supposition. What is striking about the work is the rigorously contrapuntal Benedictus which forms a stark contrast to the similarly unusual Agnus Dei in which a solo organ alternating with theconcertante wind instruments (oboe and bassoon) provides a framework for the coloratura-rich part of the solo soprano. Novello New Choral Series-In Out of the south cometh the whirlwind chant-like melodies and colourful organ writing combine to explore the relationship between God and the natural world. Awarded a 2011 King James Bible Composition Award the work uses rich language from the Book of Job to chart a trajectory from doubt toward belief. At the opening lyrical melodies build from a single pitch to proclaim the majesty of the ?wondrous works of God.? But doubt painted with nervous lines in the altos and basses soon invades only to be diffused by a beautiful voice from beyond a treble solo. Their faith restored the choir joyfully celebrates God?s power and mystery and the anthem ends inquiet contemplation. The Novello New Choral Series is an inspiring selection of new works from a range of contemporary composers offering pieces for all types of choirs including sacred and secular works from simple four-part settings to more expansive yet accessible repertoire in an exciting variety of styles. This collection is perfect for choirs looking to broaden their repertoire and explore some of the best new music around.Zachary Wadsworth (b.1983) is a prizewinning young composer whose works have been hailed as ?astonishingly confident? and ?mesmerizing? Evocation to a Friend was commissioned for the Choristers of Canterbury Cathedral on behalf of Befrienders International (now Befrienders Worldwide). The text is by David Race and explores themes of friendship and hope. The music grows in intensity over a cyclic harmonic pattern with repeating melodic fragments arranged across the four voices creating a hypnotic effect. After a bleak and reflective interlude in the middle the music unwinds to a peaceful conclusion. The Novello New Choral Series is an inspiring selection of new works from a range of contemporary composers offering pieces for all types of choirs including sacred and secularworks from simple four-part settings to more expansive yet accessible repertoire in an exciting variety of styles. “Missa brevis in F in score. This was the first Mass which Mr. Haydn composed whilst still a student” says an entry in the catalogue of Haydn’s musical estate. Circa 1798/99 Haydn entered the work without an incipit in his working catalogue as “Missa brevis in F. / a due Soprani”. Around 1805/06 he added in shaky decrepit handwriting to the title “Missa.” on the front page of the organ part of one of the set of parts prepared by his copyist Johann Elßler: “Brevis / di me Giuseppe Haydn mpria / 1749”. This date the earliest yet found on a work by Haydn corresponds to the title of the Haydn catalogue whichindicates the eighteenth year of Haydn’s life i. e. 1749/50 as the starting point of his work: “Catalogue of all those compositions which I happen to remember writing from my 18th to my 73rd year of life.” In 1805 Haydn set about adding further instruments to the original scoring for two violins and figured organ bass and by 15th February 1806 the larger instrumentation was ready as is evidenced by a letter written on this very day by the Haydn biographer Georg August Griesinger. It is however by no means certain whether the seventy-three-year-old undertook this adaptation himself. - Urtext from Joseph Haydn Werke - Full score parts (BA4644) and vocal score (BA4644-90) available for sale - Early string version and later version with wind instruments and timpani

Composer and Organist John Merbecke lived in interesting times. He was born soon after the beginning of the 16th century and spent his whole life in service of music at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle. In 1543 he was arrested for heresy and sentenced to death but received a royal pardon unlike the three others with whom he was arrested. He returned to his position at Windsor and began work on a concordance of the English Bible to replace the one that had been destroyed when he was arrested. The Book of Common Praier Noted was published in 1550 at a time when the continued use of plainchant was controversial. Here Merbecke sets the chants but in English ratherthan Latin. As a piece of history for students of monody and as a part of the church’s heritage Merbecke’s setting is invaluable.

O Saving Victim was completed on 16th March, 2003, and was premiered by the choir of St Mary's Church, Goochland, VA, directed by Hope Armstrong Erb. The solo lines in this piece should blend with the rest of the chorus as much as possible. In large choirs, the solo lines in bars 21-22 and 26-30 may be sung by a pair or small group of people to preserve balance. This does not apply to the unaccompanied solos in bar 30-35. Zachary Wadsworth's 'vivid, vital, and prisimatic' music has established him as one of the leading composers of his generation, especially among those writing vocal, choral and operatic works. As winner of the 2011 King James Bible Composition Award, Wadsworth's anthem Out of the South Cometh the Whirlwind was performed by the choir of Westminster Abbey in the presence of Queen Elizabeth II. Pawe ukaszewski's Missa Brevis was composed for the Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession in Warsaw on the 500th annivesrsary of Reformation. Duration: 8 minutes OrganistsReview: The biggest piece in this selection is Pawel Lukaszewski's Missa Brevis for SSA choir accompanied either by a sevenÂpart instrumental ensemble of three strings three woodwind andtubular bells or else by organ. The composition is throughout built out of repetitive figuration in the accompaniment and closely imitative canonic fragments in the vocal parts. It is vocally demanding with large leaps to benegotiated and wide vocal ranges. An ambitious upperÂvoice choir might welcome the challenge - though I'm not sure many congregations would be up for it.
