Tarik O’Regan's The Night's Untruth for SATB chorus Brass ensemble and Organ is a co-commission celebrating the 10th anniversary of JAM (The John Armitage Memorial Trust) and the 40th anniversary of VocalEssence. 'The Night’s Untruth explores the use of sleep as metaphor by dint of excerpts from poems written in the 17th to 20th centuries. Death love fear ecstasy isolation dreaming and rest are all textual “variations” on the “theme” of sleep and can be found in the chosen texts. The work’s title is taken from a line in a poem by Samuel Daniel (1562-1619) and speaks tothe composition’s focus on sleep as a parallel possibly dystopian existence to the one experienced in our waking hours.' - Tarik O’Regan March 2010 Scored for brass quintet organ and SATB choir with (minor) divisi and occasional moderately demanding solos for tenor and soprano this evocative 16-minute work probes the mystery of sleep with texts from poems by Keats Samuel Daniel Shakespeare and Hart Crane: 'death love fear ecstasy isolation dreaming and rest' are the themes O'Regan explores through these texts in a work as episodic as a disturbed night with the title creating a 'focus in sleep as a parallel possibly dystopian existence'. - Organists' Review

Commissioned by Austria s leading brass band Brass Band Oberoesterreich Titan s Progress is a series of descriptive virtuoso episodes based on the principal character of the novel by Jean Paul. This was also the original subject of Mahler s Symphony No. 1 from which Hermann Pallhuber derives much of his material. The work has proved an exceptionally popular test piece all over the world.Titan's Progress was the selected test piece for the British Open Brass Band Championship held at Symphony Hall Birmingham on Saturday 12th September 2009.Brass Band Grade 6: ChampionshipDuration: 17 minutes

Hobson's Brass is Malcolm Arnold’s score to David Lean’s 1954 film Hobson’s Choice was one of three collaborations between the composer and director. It’s a story of Henry Hobson played by Charles Laughtan who runs a successful bootmaker’s shop in nineteenth-century Salford. A widower with a weakness for the pub he tries forcefully to rule the lives of his three unruly daughters. Brass Band Grade 5: 1st Section. Duration 10 minutes.

This traditional Christmas Carol Once In Royal David's City has been here arranged for Brass Ensemble and contains the following parts 3 Trumpets 3 Trombones Bass Clef Tuba Percussion and Timpani.

Another World’s Hell was commissioned in versions for brass wind and fanfare bands by the Société Cantonale des Musiques Vaudoises and the Association Cantonale des Musiques Neuchâteloises for the 2013 Swiss Cantonales festivals. It is inspired by a passage in Aldous Huxley’s classic 1932 science-fiction novel Brave New World which  describes in unusually close detail the music that is being played at a dance. This is Dobson’s interpretation of  the  imagined  ‘future music’ that Huxley dreamed of. Brass Band Grade: 5Duration: 13 minutes

Hedwig’s Theme from Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone is probably the most recognisable of all the themes from John Williams’ score to the Harry Potter films. The music has been arranged for brass band by Andrew Duncan. Brass Band Grade 4: Advanced Youth and 3rd Section Duration: 5 minutes

This new Leyland Band release features seven first-time recordings including 'The Alchymist’s Journal' by Kenneth Hesketh and 'Four Sketches' by Simon Dobson - the winning entry in the 2002 European Brass Band Composer Competition. Soloist James Gourlay performs the brass band arrangement of Ralph Vaughan Williams' Tuba Concerto. Other works included are 'Global Variations' and 'Thames Journey' by Nigel Hess 'RPM' and 'Headbanger' by Matthew Hindson 'Peterloo' by Malcolm Arnold and the comical encore piece 'Keystone Kops' by Carl Davis.

'The Alchymist's Journal' gets its title from the book of the same name by American author Evan S. Connell. The book fictionalises a number of famous Alchemist’s writings each one developing another's thoughts thus continuing one idea but changing it subtly to provide a new view point or way of thinking. This process is in fact alchemical as one idea transmutes into another. This idea is parallel to the processes at work within these variants. The whole work is constructed from 6 notes (C A B flat E flat F sharp E) and is presented in nine different sections each individual in mood but still based upon the original pitches. This is not a thematic set ofvariations as the themes are developed one at a time from small segments of the six notes. For example the opening theme is the complete number of pitches the second theme uses three notes transposed then repeated at the original level and so on. Harmonically the six notes can be divided into two triads A minor and E flat minor – each key beginning and ending the piece respectively. Whilst this is essentially abstract music with no programme there is an introduction menacing scherzo slow reflective section followed by a recap of the scherzo and final coda. 'The Alchymist’s Journal' was commissioned by the Brass Band Heritage Trust at the suggestion of Paul Hindmarsh to whom the work is dedicated.
