At times Romantic, at other times with a jazzy touch, the Choral collection Bruckner. Secular choral music is full of exciting discoveries and new arrangements at various levels of difficulty. Anton Bruckner’s secular choral music is often overshadowed by his great symphonies and sacred choral works – unfairly, as choral experts Simon Halsey and Jan Schumacher prove with their small but fine selection of choral music inspired by secular texts. Bruckner left only a few movements for mixed choir; instead, his music for male voices constitutes a far larger body of work. For this collection, renowned arrangers from Germany, England, Denmark, and Italy have specially reworked the most beautiful of these choral movements for SATB, enabling this great repertoire to be performed by mixed choirs. Two original SATB compositions are also included. Furthermore, the choral collection features arrangements of songs originally written for solo voice and piano with texts by such poets as Heinrich Heine and Emanuel Geibel. Another highlight is an arrangement of the Adagio from Bruckner’s String Quintet WAB 112, which Heribert Breuer has created for choir to a text by Georg Trakl.- 16 SATB settings, several with keyboard accompaniment- Selected by Simon Halsey and Jan Schumacher- Modern SATB arrangements of male-voice works and solo songs, as well as original compositions - Affordable complete volume (editionCHOR) as well as separate editions available in print and digitally.- Introductory price valid until 31.10.2023, then 27.00 EUR (editionCHORLEITUNG) and 15.00 EUR (editionCHOR, minimum order: 20 copies)

The composer, chorus and organist Janusz Krzysztof Korczak, who was born in Krakow in 1994, was awarded the 3rd prize at the International Composition Competition Musica Sacra Nova 2016 for his choral piece Cum enim quietum silentium contineret omnia, .... This sophisticated Latin-language choral work is designed for four four-part ensembles (SATB / SATB / SATB / SATB) a cappella, for which the Polish composer delivers an exact arrangement. The Korczak, which is divided into a number of musical thematic sections, for which Korczak foresees a maximum of four singers per voice within the individual ensembles, has, according to his own statement, musically implemented a kind of programmatic visualization of the underlying words from Liber Sapientiae 18, 14-15b searched. And so there are lecture notes such as delicate or sharp whispering, singing with closed and open mouth, ad libitum to declaiming parts, a general pause with explicit seconds, strong dynamic accents and an abrupt descending Glissando at the end of thestriking features of this 16-voice A -cappella-choral work. Ideal literature for singers with a high degree of experimentation.

Vs. 2-5 Text: The First Letter of Peter: Chapter 2.
The words, Surely thou hast tasted that the Lord is good, open the anthem. This gentle and lyrical section, marked by dialogue between the sections of the choir, unfolds and eventually reaches a climax on the words precious in the sight of God. A quick, energetic and imitative middle section soon emerges to proclaim the words, Come, and let yourselves be built, as living stones, into a spiritual temple. Here the spirit of medieval music, the building stones for Western music, is invoked. After the anthem’s primary climax is reached on the words Jesus Christ, a solo soprano emerges from the choral texture to close this work with a serene Amen. The first performance of Dan Locklair’s anthem, In the sight of God took place on Sunday 4 October 2009. The occasion was Dedication Sunday, and the text was selected by John Scott from The First Letter of Peter, vv 2-5. Professor Locklair has provided us with a delightful addition to our repertoire at St Thomas. The work is grateful to sing, well written for voices, lyrical in style with a well-crafted sense of architecture and climax. In every sense it is an enjoyable piece for the choir, quite approachable, and judging from the many positive comments I heard afterwards from members of the congregation, it was very well received. -- Reflections on the premiere by John Scott, Director of Music, St. Thomas Church Fifth Avenue, New York, NY SATB Chorus, a cappella Duration: 4' Text: The First Letter of Peter: Chapter 2, vs. 2-5 Composed: 2009 Published by: Subito Music Publishing Minimum order quantity: 8 copies. Commissioned by King’s Chapel, Boston, Massachusetts, in celebration of its 325th anniversary, this longer a cappella work uses a text assembled and adapted from various Biblical passages. From the composer's introduction: The anthem begins grandly with words from Psalm 89 celebrating God’s all-encompassing faithfulness and love. An alleluia refrain follows and returns several times throughout the work. However, it is not a majestic, Handelian alleluia, but rather one of inward passion and fervent introspection. The next section begins joyously with the familiar prophesy from Zechariah; it is followed by several brief Gospel scenes from the life of Jesus. After another alleluia, words of blessing from Psalm 103 are set vigorously before the work closes with a final alleluia. Text: Angier Brock.
SATB Chorus, Organ Duration: 7' Text: Angier Brock Composed: 2010 Published by: Subito Music Publishing YouTube: Ms. Brock’s moving poem is lyrical throughout. Even in its beautiful originality, the poem invokes The Book of Common Prayer and biblical scripture (the latter through references to dust and breath from Genesis 2 to the final line of the poem invoking the opening of Psalm 62). Ms. Brock’s poetry is also filled with wonderful twists on traditional texts (such as in the creative and reverse naming of the Trinity in speaking of Inventing Wind, Generous Christ, and Luminous God). Musically, the main melodic material of the piece is immediately heard on a solo organ color accompanied by organ strings over a recurring pedal pulse on the pitch C. The chorus soon enters with the first stanza of the text. As this stanza unfolds, the harmony starts to gradually change as the pulsing pedal rhythm begins to move upward by step. An organ interlude, reflective of the opening introduction, soon emerges (though now over a C-sharp recurring pedal pulse), and leads to a similar choral setting as found in stanza one. As the poem’s second stanza moves forward, it eventually folds into the more harmonically rich stanza three. A fast, dance-like section evolves at Inventing Wind, what a lively dance your energy creates! eventually bringing the work to its climax point. The spirit of dance soon subsides and leads to a quiet and gentle close on the words …for you alone my soul in silence waits. Minimum order quantity: 8 copies. Volume II of the collected edition of the choral works of Veress contains seven Hungarian folksong cycles or cantatas, a choral poem in Hungarian and a choral cycle in English. In his first creative period (1929-1939), which he spent in Hungary, Sandor Veress's direct involvement in Hungarian folk music research played a decisive part: his folksong experience gained through personal collecting work found expression in his first period of composition for mixed choir. In the course of the 1960s, after his emigration, he returned on two occasions to the a cappella mixed choir genre: in 1962 he wrote a piece for mixed choir to mark the 60th birthday of the great Hungarian poet Gyula Illyes (Oda Europahoz - Ode to Europe, based on the poem by Illyes), and in 1967, at the request of the Australian Radio Company, he composed for the 'Adelaide Singers' chamber choir Songs of the Seasons, a seven-movement madrigal cycle making exceptional demands on the performers, to verses by the Australian poet Christopher Brennan (1870-1932).
