Composed by Marcel Dupre, Laudate is the last of the Four Motets. Written for a mixed SATB and two organs, the lyrics are in Latin and the volume includes all the scores: female soprano and alto, male tenor and bass and the two organ scores. The piece is introduced by the two organs and the male voices are the first to start singing (tenor, followed quickly by the bass). The full SATB then sings together, sometimes alternated by the organs and the organ parts include an outstanding toccata. Laudate is an amazing way to finish this series with a triumphant and glorious celebration of God. The organ scores require some upper intermediate skills, with the knowledge of pedals and the vocal parts, quite demanding, evolve in polyphony and polyrhythm. Marcel Dupre is a French composer and virtuoso organist who won the Prix de Rome in 1914. He became famous when he played the works of Bach in its totality from memory in 1920. He later became the professor of many renowned students at the Paris Conservatoire such as Olivier Messiaen, Jean Langlais and Pierre Cochereau amongst others.

These four splendid anthems were composed for the coronation of George II in October 1727 and have since retained a position at the heart of the English choral tradition. The popular anthem Zadok the Priest has been performed at all subsequent coronations, and Handel's other contributions to the royal occasion - Let thy hand be strengthened, The King shall rejoice, and My heart is inditing - have the same majestic grandeur, with affecting contrasts between different sections of the sacred texts. The editor, Clifford Bartlett, has corrected various inconsistencies in Handel's score, and complete details of sources and editorial method, additional performance notes, and a critical commentary are included.

The “Hallelujah” chorus is the final movement of part two of Handel’s Messiah, the part that comments on Christ’s crucifixion, resurrection, and ascension. The text of the chorus, assembled from Biblical passages by the oratorio’s librettist, Charles Jennens, is from Revelation 19:6, 11:15, and 19:16: “Hallelujah, for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth. The kingdom of this world is become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he shall reign for ever and ever. KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.” This edition has been prepared from the first published score in 1767, with comparisons to Handel’s autograph manuscript now housed in the British Museum. The text has been reproduced here without alterations. However, the beamings of the vocal parts have been modernized for ease of reading (the original material has flags instead of beams for every separate syllable). The piano accompaniment is a reduction of the orchestral material: the first and second violin parts are represented in the upper staff, with only occasional inclusion of the viola, trumpet, and timpani parts, the basso continuo, in its original form, is in the bottom staff. The GIA Historical Music Series edited by Dennis Shrock, presents repertoire suitable for performance by public school, college and university, church, and community ensembles, with the purpose of making available to today’s conductors lesser-known and previously difficult-to-procure historical masterpieces. The music, drawn from the Renaissance through the Romantic eras, is in performance editions based on the most current and rigorous scholarly research. The musical scores reflect original intent of notation, with all editorial markings and emendations clearly identified as such. In addition, preface material accompanying the music contains literal translations of foreign language texts and information regarding the lives of the composers, genres, and relevant performance practices. Dennis Shrock is Director of Choral Activities at Texas Christian University. He has been called one of the top choral scholars in the United States and has received a number of awards for his work. He received a bachelor's degree in music education from Westminster Choir College and both master's and doctoral degrees in choral conducting from Indiana University.

With the Schicksalslied Brahms created a very personal interpretation on the theme of fate in a timeless piece of music that will not fail to impress in concert hall or church. The new edition is a modern Urtext edition of the score based on current editorial principles. It is based not only on the composer's personal copy of the first edition as the primary source, but also on the engraving manuscript which was long thought to have been lost. Thus the composer's handwritten corrections made in this manuscript could be incorporated in the new edition, as well as a revision in this bilingual edition of the English translation of Friedrich Holderlin's dramatic poem. Score available separately - see item CA.1039900.

With the Missa Sancti Nicolai and the Missa Sancti Joannis de Deo, his last to missae breves, Haydn also achieved masterworks in this category, and during his lifetime they numbered among his most popular works. This so called Little Organ Solo Mass has never been accused of being unsuitable for church use despite the text stratification in the Gloria and Credo. Inspite of the unusual brevity of the Gloria (31 bars), the text setting still shows musical differentation. The strength of the composition lies in its expressive ability to force the listener under its spell with magic power. The full score contains at the same time the organ part. Score available separately - see item CA.4060000.

The piece was written originally for equal voice choir in 1929. A mixed-choir adaptation was made in 1961 at the request of Oxford University Press. This appeared in print in the same year with an English text under the title A Christmas Carol in a collection of Christmas songs, as well as in a separate print. The musical material of the mixed-choir version largely follows the original. There is one essential difference in verse 5, beginning at bar 35 ( Babe all holy ) where the tenor solo appears with a delightful eight-bar countermelody not found in the original. Since this version only appeared in Kodály s lifetime with an English text, this has been retained, but we havealso provided the original Hungarian text upon which the equal voice version is based. Zoltán Kodály s complete choral works for mixed voices were published in a new, extended, edition in 2018 (Z. 6725 and Z. 6725A).
