Par RAE JAMES. This work was written for and dedicated to the clarinettist Mark Walton OAM by way of a thank you for all his fine recordings and performances of my music. It was premiered in London by Mark and his accompanist David Miller OAM, on June 29th 2014 in the Princess Alexandra Hall at Royal Over-Seas League, Mayfair in a concert entitled ‘Clarinet Hidden Treasures from England’ which was organised to launch Mark’s CD of the same name. The two-disc album, as its title suggests, contains works for clarinet and piano in a variety of styles by English composers including Mike Cornick, Jonathan FeBland, Paul Harris, Paul Harvey, Joseph Horovitz, Gordon Jacob, Christopher Norton and Sid Phillips. This sheet music album includes two pieces: Cloudy Bay is in the north east of New Zealand’s South Island, brought to world fame by the fine Sauvignon Blanc wine sharing the same name. This movement is very dreamy and reflective in nature and was inspired by Mark’s exquisite, silky sound. Beatin’ about the Bush! is a celebration of Mark’s highly successful pioneering outreach programme of workshops bringing music to young musicians in the Outback of Australia and beyond. Although written for Emma Johnson’s clarinet the Suite is a partnership between the instruments.John Dankworth was a towering figure in British jazz almost from the earliest years of his career as a jazzcomposer Saxophonist and clarinetist and as an educator and speaker until his death in 2010. This piece was written for Emma Johnson the 1984 Young Musician of the Year. She has since recorded it.

It soon became popular around the world and is today a classic in the modern repertoire, including many arrangements for various instruments and ensembles. This publication is the first for clarinet and piano, arranged by Paula Corley, former Pedagogy Chair for the International Clarinet Association, with piano accompaniment edited by Stephanie Bruning. The work consists of two themes the first a temperamental theme in D minor, followed by a lyrical section in D major, both with a typical tango rhythm. It became Gade\'s most popular and successful work, enjoying numerous radio broadcasts and recordings. Gregson's Clarinet Concerto was completed in 1994 by commission for the BBC and was first performed by the BBC Philharmonic with Michael Collins in Manchester April 1994 (later recorded on Chandos CHAN 10105). The writing is highly challenging pushing the instrument and its performer to the limits with some formidable glissandi and stark contrasts. This edition features a piano reduction of Gregson's orchestral material.

A Bit Of A Blow was originally written for the Saxology Quartet in 1996 and has been recorded by them on Meridian.
