Par SPARKE PHILIP. A Centennial Journey est une commande de l’ensemble norvégien Stavanger Musikkorps av 1919 pour célébrer son centenaire, en 2019. L’orchestre a créé cette pièce sous la direction de Morten E. Hansen lors de son concert de jubilé au Konserthus de Stavanger, le 28 septembre 2019. La pièce s’ouvre de façon spectaculaire avec une ample mélodie aux cors et saxophones sous des figures fleuries aux vents, puis s’amplifie en un climax majestueux. Un trio pour les trombones apaise l’ambiance jusqu’au retour de la première mélodie dans une forme plus douce qui s’élargit finalement en un molto vivo élaboré. Les figures des vents se poursuivent sur une série de trios pour cuivres jusqu’à l’apparition du thème principal de la pièce par les clarinettes et les euphoniums. Ce passage se développe pour mener à un changement de tonalité et une longue mélodie en forme d’hymne par les clarinettes et les cors. Cette mélodie est alors reprise par l’orchestre entier, des fanfares se faisant entendre sporadiquement. Le début du molto vivo revient et mène à un retour de la mélodie aux cors du début, qui s’amplifie en une coda exaltante fondée sur la reprise de divers fragments mélodiques. / Date parution : 2022-01-14/ Répertoire / Concert Band/Harmonie

This lyrical piece features a memorable melody that is presented by all sections of the band. These reflective presentations lead into a slightly faster minor section indicating the anticipation of plans for the future. The final presentation of the melody indicates a positive feeling of accomplishment and features a moving countermelody by the woodwinds leading to a quiet, contemplative ending. from The Wild Swans Suite. Par KATS-CHERNIN ELENA. Eliza’s Aria is a classical aria from the ballet Wild Swans, composed by Uzbekistan composer Elena Kats-Chernin. The piece was first recorded by soprano Jane Sheldon and the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, and released on the ABC Classics label. This recording was subsequently used in the 2007 Lloyds TSB “For the Journey” television and cinema advertisements and also received extensive radio airplay in December 2007.
