The composition ".The Fever Tree". in 2008 was commissioned by the Music Association of Central and Eastern Netherlands St.Willibrord as a gift to all its members on the occasion of the formation of a national music organization and the elimination of the music union for Central and Eastern Netherlands St.Willibrord. The fever tree is a controversial legend about St. Willibrord (658-739). The daughter of a pagan chieftain of Hoemannen that made the area around Heumen unsafe, was seriously ill. They feared for her life. The chief of the gang turned to predatory Willibrord, who same time in this region led mission. Willibrord commanded theman to repent and a headband of the girl to a certain special tree to hang. The desperate captain obeyed, and his daughter was a miraculous heal. Then came the anger of the Hoemannen against their leader, who in their eyes had committed treason by the group to convert. They abused themselves to him and killed him brutally. The daughter remained behind in great sorrow, comforted by Willibrord. The composition has the following scenes: - Andante moderato - the calling of Willibrord - Allegro moderato - Willibrord passes through the province of Brabant and try to people to repent - Vivace - Hoemannen terrorize the inhabitants of the area Heumen - Andante - the healing of the sick girl and the conversion of the centurion - Inquieto - the revenge of the Hoemannen - Adagio - elegy on the death of the chief De compositie 'The Fever Tree' (De koortsboom) werd in 2008 geschreven in opdracht van de Muziekbond Midden- en Oost Nederland St.Willibrord, als geschenk aan al haar leden bij gelegenheid van de vorming van één landelijke muziekorganisatieen de opheffing van de muziekbond voor Midden- en Oost Nederland St.Willibrord. De koortsboom is een omstreden legende rond St. Willibrord (658-739). De dochter van de heidense hoofdman van de Hoemannen, diehet gebied rond Heumen onveilig maakten, was ernstig ziek. Men vreesde voor haar leven. De hoofdman van de roofzuchtige bende wende zich tot Willibrord, die in dezelfde tijd in deze streek missioneerde. Willibrord gebood deman zich te bekeren én een hoofdband van het meisje aan een bepaalde, bijzondere boom te hangen. De radeloze hoofdman gehoorzaamde en zijn dochter werd op wonderbaarlijke wijze genezen. Toen keerde de woede van de Hoemannen zichtegen hun leider, die in hun ogen verraad had gepleegd aan de groep door zich te bekeren. Ze vergrepen zich aan hem en vermoordden hem op gruwelijke wijze. De dochter bleef in grote droefheid achter, getroost door Willibrord.De compositie kent de volgende tableaus: - Andante moderato - de roeping van Willibrord - Allegro moderato - Willibrord trekt door het Brabantse land en tracht de bevolking te bekeren - Vivace - deHoemannen terroriseren de inwoners van het gebied rond Heumen - Andante - de genezing van het zieke meisje en de bekering van de hoofdman - Inquieto - de wraak van de Hoemannen - Adagio - treurzang over de doodvan de hoofdman.

When Jeff Wayne’s musical adaptation H.G.Wells’ novel The War of the Worlds was originally released, no one would have believed that it would become so popular. The Eve of the War, the stunning opening scene of Wayne’s show, became a huge international hit single in its own right. This new arrangement by the highly respected British composer/arranger Ed Keeley retains all the drama and tension of the original atmospheric opening. A joy to perform and a pleasure to listen to.Toen Jeff Wayne’s muzikale bewerking van The War of the Worlds - H.G. Wells’ roman uit 1898 - eind jaren zeventig werd uitgebracht, had niemand kunnen denken dat deze zo populair zou worden. Met Richard Burton, David Essexen Phil Lynott (beiden van Thin Lizzy), Julie Covington, Chris Thompson en Justin Hayward bestormde het dubbelalbum meteen de Britse hitlijsten, waar het jarenlang bleef staan. Een feest der herkenning voor uw publiek.Krieg der Welten ist wohl jedem ein Begriff, sei es in Form von H.G.Wells’ Roman aus dem Jahr 1898, Orson Welles‘ Radioadaption, Jeff Waynes innovativem Rockmusical oder jüngst von Steven Spielbergs Kinofilm aus dem Jahr 2005. The Eve of the War, die atemberaubende Eröffnungsmelodie von Waynes Musikversion wurde ein großer internationaler Hit. Das Album ist die bekannteste Musikaufnahme aller Zeiten und wurde mehrfach ausgezeichnet. Grund genug für Edwin H. Keely, diese Bearbeitung für Blasorchester zu schreiben, die dem Original absolut gerecht wird.Chacun a déj plus ou moins entendu parler de La Guerre des mondes (The War of the Worlds). Lorsque Jeff Wayne livre sa version musicale du roman d’Herbert Georges Wells, il n’imaginait pas le succès venir. Dans l’atmosphère éthérée du tapis acoustique de The Eve of the War, une voix sombre et intense vient appuyer la célèbre phrase « Personne n'aurait cru, dans les dernières années du XIXe siècle, que les choses humaines fussent observées (…) ». Le succès de cette interprétation épique de la première invasion de la Terre perdure encore de nos jours.The War of the Worlds (La guerra dei mondi) è universalmente noto come romanzo di H.G. Whereas ‘Auld Lang Syne’ may be considered the best-known Scottish song ever, yet at the same time it is an obscure one, for there are but few people who know the complete text by heart. After the familiar ‘Should auld acquaintance be forgot .....‘ many people take their refuge to lyrics like ‘rum tee dum ta dee ..... lah, lah, lah ........... for auld lang syne’. Even in Scotland only a handful of persons know the entire text and are able to give a correct rendering of it. The current lyrics have been attributed to the Scottish poet Robert Burns. Burns, however, he did not write the whole poem : after he had heard an old man sing the centuries-old Scotchballad, he wrote it down and added a number of stanzas (1788). Historical research teaches us that the ballad served many purposes, both political and religious. Nowadays, ‘Auld Lang Syne’ is sung as a Christmas Carol and it is also sung on New Year’s Eve at the turning of the year. Apart from that, though, the song is also sung on many other occasions sometimes with different lyrics, which usually have Love, Friendship and/or Parting as their themes, as these go well with the fascinating melody. In this arrangement a low-sounding solo instrument is central. The harmonization in the accompaniment fits in perfectly with the sentiments this song will evoke. For auld lang syne, my dear, For auld lang syne, We’ll take a cup of kindness yet, For auld lang syne. Misschien wel het meest bekende Schotse lied, maar tegelijkertijd ook het minst bekende, er zijn er maar weinig mensen die de tekst mee kunnen zingen. Na het bekende ‘Should auld acquaintaintance be forgot and .....‘ vervallenvelen in ‘rum tee dum ta dee ..... lah, lah, lah ........... for auld lang syne’. Zelfs in Schotland is maar een enkeling in staat de tekst correct weer te geven.De huidige versie wordt toegeschreven aan de Schotse dichterRobert Burns. Burns heeft echter niet de hele tekst gemaakt. Toen hij de eeuwen oude Schotse ballade door een oude man hoorde zingen, heeft hij enkele verzen toegevoegd (1788).Historisch onderzoek leert dat de ballade voorveel doeleinden gebruikt werd, voor politieke als ook religieuze doelen. Tegenwoordig wordt ‘Auld Lang Syne’ gebruikt als Christmas Carol en wordt het gezongen tijdens de jaarwisseling op oudejaarsavond.Het lied, soms meteen andere tekst, wordt echter op veel meer plaatsen gebruikt. Liefde, Vriendschap en Afscheid zijn dan meestal de sentimenten die gecombineerd worden met de meeslepende melodie.In dit arrangement staat een ‘laag’ solo-instrumentcentraal. De harmonisatie in de begeleiding sluit naadloos aan bij deze gevoelens die dit lied oproepen. Should auld acquaintance be forgot And never brought to mind?
