Johann Jacob Froberger, who lived from 1617 to 1667, developed a style of composition representing a synthesis of Italian, French and English influences, thereby setting new standards at that time. Only Jan Peterszoon Sweelinck can match Froberger in terms of significance for 17th century keyboard music.The text to each volume of the complete edition of Froberger's organ and keyboard music is published in German and English comprising a critical commentary as well as a detailed foreword explaining the scope and subdivision of the edition and the editorial techniques. Although quite some time has passed since the multifaceted organ music from Spain's Golden Age could be called an 'insider's tip?, it had yet to attain popularity with any wide audience outside the countries of the Iberian Peninsula. The three-volume Urtext edition of selected works by Joan Cabanilles, the cathedral organist from Valencia, now has every chance of becoming a milestone in its own right. The Iberian organ tradition of the 17th century appears to have reached its climax in his tientos, diferencias and versos. Par AUVINEN ANTTI. Antti Auvinen (b. 1974) composed Singel Excelsis in 2012 using material from an earlier work for three organs. He finds fascinating the rhythmic characteristics of the organ: 'Many of the vibrations and rhythmic fluctuations derived from the overtone series are extremely interesting. Also the natural virtuosity of the instrument is utterly fascinating. In fast passages the rhythmic accuracy needs very quick attack. A slower attack on the other hand makes it possible to turn the attention to gestures and figures, while details get more blurred. Different ?attack features? of the organ stops allow shaping of very diverse rhythmic figures in time and space.'
