In composing Celestial Wind, Sirota was inspired to write a brilliant toccata based upon Acts 2:2-3: And suddenly there came a sound from heaven of a rushing and mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. Sirotas aim was not merely to imitate the sound of rushing wind and flames, as to evoke the sense of awe and ecstasy that must have been felt by Jesus disciples at this manifestation of the Holy Spirit.

Olivier Messiaen (1908-1992) is known for his unique composition style. Incorporating complex rhythms, harmony and melodies, Meditations on the Mystery of the Holy Trinity is no exception to the composer's popular, distinctive style. Composed in 1969, Meditations on the Mystery of the Holy Trinity is an example of Messiaen's use of Serialism. The composer first used what he called his musical alphabet in Meditations on the Mystery of the Holy Trinity, where the alphabet includes motifs for the concepts, 'to have', 'to be' and 'God'. Furthermore, 'sentences' depict the writings of St. Thomas Aquinas. Messiaen's musical alphabet, which he also described as communicable language is explained as a preface to the composition Meditations on the Mystery of the Holy Trinity. Divided into nine sections ('meditations'), a typical performance lasts about 74 minutes. Messiaen's Meditations on the Mystery of the Holy Trinity is essential to all advanced, virtuoso and contemporary organists seeking to expand and vary their repertoire..

The Leipziger Ausgabe der Werke von Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy pursues the goal of making accessible to the public in an adequately scholarly form all of Mendelssohn's accessible compositions, letters and writings, along with all other documents of his artistic oeuvre. A considerable number of Mendelssohn's works are still waiting to be published; many others have been published in an unsatisfactory manner.Though the new Mendelssohn Complete Edition follows the ten volumes of the Leipziger Mendelssohn Ausgabe (LMA) published by the Deutscher Verlag fur Musik (DVfM) in Leipzig since 1961, it sees itself as a fundamentally new conception which reflects the present-day standard of scholarly editions. The first volumes of the new Complete Edition were presented in Leipzig on 3 November 1997 at Mendelssohn Festtage in Leipzig.SON 411 - 413 have been awarded the German Music Edition Prize 2006.Editorial Board: Christian Martin Schmidt (chairman), Peter Ward Jones, Friedhelm Krummacher, R. Of Things Hoped For begins with a modest arching phrase, supported by a descending pedal line. The ensuing meditation develops a new melismatic idea along with toccata elements, leading to a grand statement. A dance follows, based on the melisma, which stretches and flips the material. The little bass line from the opening re-asserts itself as a soprano tune, first in a quiet B-major episode, then triumphantly and in D major in the trumpet. Thomas was commissioned to write this work by Marilyn Biery in honor of James Biery's birthday in 2001; it was premiered by James in May, 2001, at the Cathedral of St. Paul in St. Paul, MN.

Recently I have again studied the poetry of Hermann Hesse, the most significant 'Maulbronnian'. His poems 'A Toccata from Bach' and 'Playing the Flute' inspired me to write the present piece. In 'Playing the Flute' he expressed his idea about the essence of music: It is 'time made aesthetically perceivable. And in the present, to be sure. And thus, once again, the identity of the moment and eternity come to mind.' The title of this piece is drawn from the last line of 'Playing the Flute.' (John Van Buren).

Carl Fasch was notoriously reluctant to have his music made public and even asked that much of it should be destroyed. What remains, however, supports the view of the contemporary writer on music Johann Reichardt that Fasch was the true successor to C. P. E. Bach, with whom he shared keyboard duties for Frederick the Great. In this first volume of his complete keyboard works, the six sonatas, which appeared in print and were well regarded during the composer's lifetime, show him to be a minor master and an eloquent advocate for the eclectic expressive style then current in Berlin.
